Statistics updated on the morning of 11/12/2019
1) Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals have kept up their winning ways and are 8-0-2 in their last ten games. The power play is good as always and the Capitals penalty kill has also been a quality group. Washington currently boasts the most wins in the NHL. They are the best team in the NHL right now, no question about it.
2) St. Louis Blues
The Blues are on fire with seven straight wins and going 9-1-0 in their last ten games. The Blues power play is exceptional and they are on top of their division. St. Louis wants the Stanley Cup repeat and they are fighting hard for it.
3) New York Islanders
The goaltending has been amazing from Thomas Greiss. Some of the more important stats include his save percentage which is at .942 and his goals against average at 1.88. Those statistics really help you understand why the Islanders have only had, as a team, an average of 2.19 goals against a game, that is the best in the league. As if there needed to be another reason the Islanders are this high they are 9-0-1 in the last ten games.
4) Edmonton Oilers
With Leon Draisaitl leading the NHL in points and Connor McDavid close behind the Oilers continue to truck along as they fight for the division title. At this point there is good reason to think the Oilers are one of the best teams in the league and they haven’t slowed down yet.
5) Boston Bruins
Spectacular has been the best description of Tuuka Rask. He has really helped the team stay on top of the division. The Bruins have given back to Tuuka’s success by being the number 1 power play in the league. The Bruins may be aging but it’s certainly not stopping them.
6) Colorado Avalanche
The Avs special teams have been decent. The real key to the Avalanche has been in the offenses play. The goals for average is third best in the league. The Avs displayed their offenses power against the Predators as they put up nine goals that game.
7) Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes have had a solid defense and could be considered a dark horse Cup Runner. They recently beat the Washington Capitals and with that in mind if they can keep the overachieving into the playoffs (if they get there) they could be quite the force.
8) Carolina Hurricanes
Although the Hurricanes have done as well in the past ten games, the Hurricanes are still very good and if they can get back on track to what they were doing earlier in the year the could still snatch 2nd place in the division.
9) Pittsburgh Penguins
If you have a team with Sindey Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on it you definitely have an advantage. The Penguins defense has been up to snuff and the team as a whole is doing good. It will be a hard fight in that division for playoffs so they will need to stay at high end performance to get it done.
10) Philadelphia Flyers
Talk about being clutch! The Flyers have been in 3 OT games in the last 3 games with 2 of those going to shootouts. What did the Flyers do? Won all three of them. They also won a shootout a few games earlier against the NJ Devils. On top of it all they are on a four-game winning streak.
11) Calgary Flames
I do have some concerns regarding the Flames. Even with the holes on the team Calgary is still a good team and is 5-3-2 is their last ten games. Take a reality check though, because as of now the Flames aren’t amazing just ok. They need to put in some work to get higher on the list.
12) Winnipeg Jets
Connor Hellebuyck is unreal. His goaltending performances have guided this team forward and if he can go forward the way he has been the Jets will have a lot of success around the league.
13) Predators
Outstanding offense! That’s what Nashville has been doing. However, the Avalanche game was a scary sight to many Predators fans. The goaltending that game was garbage allowing nine goals. Fortunately for the Preds it was one game against an incredible offense in the Avs. Please note that Nashvill’s top defensive pair is very good so you guys should be ok for right now.
14) Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens offense has been a very firm unit. The Canadiens have improved in the area of consistency and that’s what counts so the Canadiens have a chance at the playoffs. It could go either way and they still they have a long way to go but there is hope in Montreal.
15) Maple Leafs
Sorry I have to say it, once again the Maple Leafs are overrated. Just because you have star power doesn’t make you a great team. The Leafs have been on and off this season. They are good enough to get on this list so be thankful for that. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them turn it around and do a little better however I don’t trust them quite yet.
16) Panthers
Another team that was overrated coming into this season was the Panthers. They have some seriously big issues such as the team allowing an average of 3.53 goals against a game. The Power play has been solid and the offense has been great as well so they do have their good points. I don’t think they are ready for any deep playoff run. That may come in time.
