The XFL took a big step forward offensively this past weekend and we have seen the quarterback play stabilize, as I predicted two weeks ago. Basically, the preseason part is over for the quarterbacks and all of a sudden this league may have more parity than we would have thought just a week ago.

8) New York Guardians

Quarterback Matt McGloin should NOT start another game this season as he was embarrassingly bad. I would go with Luis Perez. If they get solid quarterback play this team will start to climb in these rankings.

7) Tampa Bay Vipers

The Vipers need to ditch alternating quarterbacks, it does not work anywhere above jr. high football. They moved the ball with Quinton Flowers and they need to go with more of an option offense to have a chance to win games.

6) Seattle Dragons

Quarterback Brandon Silvers played better this past week in the Dragons’ loss to Dallas, but when a run-first team can’t run the ball they are in trouble. Silvers needs to keep improving and the offensive line has to play better or it could be a long season in Seattle.

5) Los Angeles Wildcats

Attendance may be an issue in Los Angeles, but quarterback play may not be anymore as Josh Johnson shook off the rust, throwing for 278 yards and three touchdowns. The craziest part is he did it without the team’s leading wide receiver, Nelson Spruce, getting any targets until garbage time. This team could cause problems for everybody.

4) DC Defenders

The Defenders put up a pitiful performance, but maybe we can chalk that up to the first time traveling across the country. Either way, Cardale Jones cannot play like this and win games. Let’s assume it’s just a blip on the radar.

3) Dallas Renegades

Landry Jones threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns in the Renegades 24-12 win over Seattle. 101 of those yards and two of the touchdowns went to tight end Donald Parham, who is one of the best skill position players in this league. Now if we can just get offensive coordinator to run the ball in the first half of games the Renegades may have something!

2) St. Louis BattleHawks

Coach Jay Hayes has done an outstanding job with this team and I really like how we can watch him coach his team. I would take him to be the head coach of my Bengals right now! The BattleHawks are being led by quarterback Jordan Ta’amu who seems to be improving on almost every play. This team plays together and while the talent may just be middle of the pack, the coaching and tenacious play of this team cannot be overlooked.

1) Houston Roughnecks

P.J. Walker is the unquestioned star of this league but his main weapon Cam Phillips is making a case for an NFL roster spot, as the two have been amazing so far. The defense did give up way too many points in Tampa but this is the best team in McMahon’s league revival.
