It wasn’t a loss, but yet again it was not a win, unfortunately for the Bengals it was a game that they should have won. The eagles are more than a depleted football team right now, and the Bengals failed to take advantage on Sunday as they are often apt to do. So what did we learn on Sunday?
Bengals fans could not ask for more than what the rookie gunslinger has given them over the first 3 weeks of the season and on Sunday yet again he was on point and made very few mistakes. Too bad the Bengals front office was not up to putting an offensive line together in front of him, but we will get to that in a little bit. The hope here has to be that the swagger he has is not beaten out of him, but if your a Bengals fan you have seen that before.
Zac Taylor and staff are not up to this job and it becomes painfully more obvious every week. Offensive line coach Jim Turner is a joke and if you don’t believe me check out his quote about this offensive line a few months before the season started. Turner said,
“When we went into free agency, I’m thinking with Freddy (Fred Johnson) there, you don’t feel like you need anything that way. With Hakeem [Adeniji] as the draft pick, I’m really not worried about that. And then when you got Xavier [Su’a-Filo] inside right now with Billy [Price] inside and of course Alex Redmond and Mike Jordan, I just feel really good.โโ
So when reading this he is either a horrible talent evaluator or he just can’t coach, I side that both statements are true.
As for the defense it was just plain bad on Sunday as a terrible Eagles offense drove the length of the field to tie the game at the end of regulation.
Zac Taylor’s play calling is great when times are desperate but his inability to take the leash off of Burrow early in games is killing this team. Why not go uptempo from the start of the game and let Burrow play the game the way he knows how?
Tee Higgins is going to be a beast, Jessie Bates is one of the best safeties in football and the young Bengals linebackers are starting to improve and of course Burrow has played well.
You know a name coach will not come here if and when taylor is fired but how about Special teams coach Darrin Simmons? The bengals special teams are very good and Simmons is a no-nonsense coach which is what this Bengals team has desperatley needed forever.
The Jags are not as talented as the Bengals and they have quite possibly the worst pass rush in the NFL if the Bengals don’t win this one, well then get ready for a repeat of last year.
