Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict is facing a possible five-game suspension for an illegal hit against Kansas City Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman during a preseason exhibition game, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Bengals wrote in a statement that they would support Burfict in his appeal of the suspension.
“The Bengals are aware of the NFL’s letter to Vontaze regarding a play in last weekend’s game,” the team said. “The film shows that the hit was legal, that Vontaze engaged his opponent from the front, and that contact was shoulder-to-chest. The Club will support Vontaze in the appeal process.”
While the hit on the Chiefs Receiver was questionable does it really warrant a five game suspension? If the NFL is so worried about the safety of the players maybe they should quit glorifying big hits on their shows and videos that they sell? For that matter if they are worried about the players maybe they should take some of the Billions they have made in revenue and give more to the retired players that they have a tendency to turn there back on?
