The AFC East has long been dominated by one team: the New England Patriots. That is unlikely to change anytime in the next few years. Given that Tom Brady has stated that he’s not interested in retiring anytime soon, the dynasty doesn’t appear to be over just yet. Because of the Patriots’ dominance, the rest of the teams will have to fight for second.
New England Patriots
The Patriots have been the team to beat, not only in their division, but in the league. They have the best quarterback/coach duo in the history of the game, and Bill Belichick is an evil genius when it comes to staffing the team to set them up to win year after year. One thing that is almost guaranteed is if the Patriots make it to the big game, they’re bringing home another trophy.
Miami Dolphins
Of all the teams in the division, the Dolphins have the best chance of overtaking the Patriots. It’s not a large chance by any means. But the Dolphins are working hard to build something and it just might work in the next couple of years. Ryan Tannehill hasn’t progressed like they hoped, but that is in part due to injury. If they keep trying to build another No Name Defense, their stock will continue to rise.
Buffalo Bills
The Bills have some talent but they’ve lost some as well, some to their division rivals. They still have Sammy Watkins, if he can stay on the field for the entire season. And a running back like LeSean McCoy always ups the talent pool. With Shady running out O the backfield, Buffalo has a decent run game. They have work to do in other areas to replenish the pool and build back up.
New York Jets
The Jets obviously knew something wasn’t working, as evidenced by the recent fire sale they had. Everything must go! And it did. This month, they’ve let go of David Harris, Darrell Revis, Brandon Marshall, and most recently, Eric Decker. Given their 2016 season, it’s not a huge surprise that they’re trying to dean house. Hopefully they have a master plan that they’re focusing on, but it’s certainly not clear what it is. On paper, they’ve ditched all the big names, so maybe they’ve got development in their sites.
Results
First Place – New England Patriots Need I say more?
Second Place – The Miami Dolphins will take second place again and do their best to look like A best to look like a contender.
Third Place – The Buffalo Bills aren’t ready to make A move yet, but it’ll be hard to lose to the Jets.
Fourth Place – I cant wait to see what’s waiting in the wings for the New York Jets. Be it a blockbuster or a horror movie, it’ll be an interesting ride.
