Ranking the Giants Options with the 2nd Overall Pick in the NFL Draft

Giants options in the Draft?

After struggling throughout the second coming of their team to find a franchise quarterback, the Cleveland Browns are likely to take one of the highly acclaimed quarterbacks in this draft with the first overall pick.  That the New York Giants with several options with the second pick.

5. Draft Bradley Chubb

The Giants recently traded Jason Pierre-Paul, which certainly creates a need for a defensive end.  Bradley Chubb is the consensus top defensive end in the class, but may not be the impact player the team needs with that high of a pick.  No disrespect to Chubb, but the Giants should be able to get more bang for their buck with that pick.

4. Draft the Quarterback of the Future

For many this would be the number one option, but Eli Manning is not going anywhere.  Drafting a quarterback to sit behind Manning for a few years will do nothing to improve the team now and also does not guarantee the future of the franchise.  The Giants need to figure out how to be competitive now before worrying about the future.

3. Trade Back

Depending on the market, this could be the best option.  The Bills are actively looking to move up in the draft, the Cardinals certainly should be, and the Broncos may also look to leapfrog the Jets in order to get their quarterback.  Even the Dolphins might be enticed to make a move if they think they can get their franchise quarterback. If the right offer comes around, the Giants just might have to take it.  Particularly if they only have to move back a couple of places and they can still get one of the players listed below. Trading with the Broncos would likely mean they would have their pick of the non-quarterback litter.

2. Draft Quenton Nelson

The Giants offensive line was abysmal in 2017.  Notre Dame offensive guard Quenton Nelson is probably the highest regarded interior line prospect the NFL has ever seen.  Drafting Nelson could be one large step towards fixing the offensive line which would have a positive effect on their offense as a whole.

1. Draft Saquon Barkley

Penn State running back Saquon Barkley is the best player in this draft and could make a huge impact for the Giants.  Not only is he an exceptional runner, he is an excellent receiver. If used effectively, Barkley would instantly bring the Giants offense back to prominence.
