Ranking the 32 Starting Quarterbacks at the end of the 2016 season.

Ranking all 32 NFL Starting Quarterbacks!
Publish Date: 01/27/2017
Fact checked by: Simon Briffa

This is a ranking of where the 32 starting quarterbacks that ended the 2016 season stand now in their career. This does not take into account the last ten years. I am ranking the QBs that ended the season as the starting QBs for their teams.

32) Matt Barkley, Chicago Bears

Barkley took over this season as the starter following injuries to Jay Cutler and Brian Hoyer. He had his moments, but I just donโ€™t think he has the arm strength or the mobility to be any better than what we saw this year. His biggest drawback is a slow release.

31) Bryce Petty, New York Jets

The fact that Petty ran the spread in college did not help his chances to succeed as an NFL QB. Petty does not have the arm strength not the accuracy to be an NFL QB.

30) Robert Griffin III, Cleveland Browns

In RG3โ€™s defense, he doesnโ€™t have much of a chance as the QB in Cleveland. I donโ€™t think Griffin is the future in Cleveland.

29) Brock Osweiler, Houston Texans

Osweiler was bad this year, and the fact he got a $72 million contract from the Texans will show you how desperate the Texans were for a quarterback. He is slow, mechanical and when you watch him play QB, you can almost see him thinking. The Texans have a talented team that could make a Super Bowl run if they had a quality starting quarterback โ€“ they donโ€™t!

28) Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams

I know Goff hasnโ€™t even won a game yet, but letโ€™s face it: There is more hope for Goff than the players ranked below him. Do I think he will be even a good NFL QB? Probably not, but we wonโ€™t have a better idea until this time next year.

27) Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers

Considering the conditions Kaepernick was playing under, he was not bad this year. I just donโ€™t think he will ever achieve the heights of his past.

26) Matt Moore, Miami Dolphins

Moore did a commendable job filling in for Ryan Tannehill at the end of the year; I assume he will go back to his backup role next year. Moore is a quality backup; I just donโ€™t think he is an NFL starter.

25) Trevor Siemian, Denver Broncos

I think considering the circumstances with no offensive line and no running game to speak of, Siemian was not terrible.

24) Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars

After an excellent 2015, this was supposed to be Bortles breakout season. It wasnโ€™t, as he seemed to regress during the season. A coaching change could do Bortles a world of good.

23) Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles

Wentz has a strong arm and a high football I.Q. and had a solid rookie season. I think over the next few years Wentz will climb this list. The Eagles need to get him a few more weapons and when they do Wentz will make the Eagles contenders.

22) Tyrod Taylor, Buffalo Bills

Taylor is a dual-threat QB who has accuracy issues, and his future is in doubt in Buffalo. I think Taylor has a ton of potential if he gets with the right team with a good QB coach.

21) Alex Smith, Kansas City Chiefs

Smith is not a bad QB, but he is not a great one either. As he gets later in his career, Smith is what he is: average. If the Chiefs ever want to get to a Super Bowl, theyโ€™ll need a change at QB to do it.

20) Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Winston struggles with mechanics and decision making which causes his biggest problem, namely a lack of consistency. The Bucs are close to being a contender, and if Winston can become more consistent, that is what they will become, a contender.

19) Sam Bradford, Minnesota Vikings

Bradford is the king of the dink-and-dunkers; he has almost no mobility and doesnโ€™t throw the ball downfield as well. I donโ€™t see Bradford ever getting higher than this on this list.

18) Carson Palmer, Arizona Cardinals

Palmerโ€™s decline was apparent this year; his ability to throw the ball deep is on the decline, and with little to no mobility, the Cardinals are in trouble if they expect Palmer to get them to the Super Bowl.

17) Eli Manning, New York Giants

Manning seems to be entering the final days of a great career. He had terrible offensive line play in front of him this year and little to no running game.

16) Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans

Mariota seems to be improving very quickly, and with the talent in Tennessee, I expect him to be top 10 as early as next year.

15) Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals

Dalton played well this year when you consider the lack of offensive play and the injuries that took a ton of weapons away from him. Over the last two seasons, Dalton has cut down big time on forcing the ball which has dramatically reduced his interception total.

14) Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens

Flacco seems to be on the downside of his career; he does not seem to throw the long ball as well as he once did. That could just be the product of a lack of offensive weapons, but only time will tell.

13) Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers

Rivers remains one of the top pocket passers in the league. Outside of Antonio Gates, he has no real weapons on offense but continues to get the job done.

12) Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

Newton is a heckuva QB when things are going his way. When they are not, he can be a bad QB. Newton is a front-runner, and I do not think that will ever change.

11) Kirk Cousins, Washington Redskins

Cousins played well enough to earn a massive contract in this upcoming offseason. His only weakness is a tendency to force throws and if he ever gets that under control, he will be top 10.

10) Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers

Big Ben has stayed healthy this year, but I believe his age is starting to show. There have been rumors of retirement, but when next season starts he will be at the helm of the Steelers once again.

9) Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

Prescott was fantastic in his rookie year, helping get the Cowboys to the no. 1 seed in the playoffs. He showed great composure in leading the Cowboys back from a 21-3 deficit in the playoffs against the Packers. His biggest problem will be Head Coach Jason Garrett until he gets a better coach winning a Super Bowl maybe out of the question.

8) Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions

Stafford was an MVP candidate until an injury to his middle finger ended his season. Stafford is the type of QB who can put an entire team on his back, and that is exactly what he was doing until the injury.

7) Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts

Luck is a great QB stuck in a bad situation. His offensive line is poor his defense is weak, but Luck can still will his team to stay in games. Hopefully, in the end, his talent wonโ€™t have been wasted in a bad situation.

6) Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders

Carr, much like Stafford, was an MVP candidate until he got injured late in the season. Carr looks to be the real deal and the Raiders because of him should contend for the next decade just because they have Carr.

5) Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

Brees to me is still an elite QB. I know the Saints have not made the playoffs in awhile, but that is because the defense has usually been terrible over the last five years.

4) Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks

Russell Wilson is an incredible talent; he has great instinct to avoid oncoming pass rushers. He has quickly turned into an elite QB.

3) Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

Rodgers is an incredible talent, but he has been hamstrung by a Packers front office who has not gotten enough talent on the field around him.

2) Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons

Ryan should get the NFL MVP this year; he even outplayed Rodgers last week to get to the Super Bowl. The knock on Ryan in the past has been his inability to perform in the playoffs. That perception has changed in the last couple of weeks.

1) Tom Brady, New England Patriots

No matter what happens in the Super Bowl Tom Brady is number one and it is not close right now and it wonโ€™t be close until Brady gets old.
