The Grueling Truth - Where Legends Speak / Power Ranking NFL Coaches Mid-Season

Power Ranking NFL Coaches Mid-Season

Publish Date: 11/05/2016
Fact checked by: Mark Lewis
November 8, 2015; Santa Clara, CA, USA; Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn looks on against the San Francisco 49ers during the fourth quarter at Levi's Stadium. The 49ers defeated the Falcons 17-16. Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

32). Gus Bradley, Jacksonville- A lot of people thought this would be the year the Jags would turn it around, they were wrong! At some point Bradley needs to be held accountable, my guess is that comes at the end of the season.

31). Chip Kelly, San Fransisco- Chip failed in Philly and he is well on his way to failing here.

30). John Fox- I expected this team to be a lot better on defense this year, they are not. Fans in Chicago will not allow the Bears ownership to keep Fox through this year unless they start winning now.

29). Todd Bowles, Jets- I think Bowles is a very good coach, but this team is too talented to play the way they are.

28). Chuck Pagano, Indianapolis- I think the Colts problem is more in the front office. Pagano has to be held accountable for the way the team is playing, and they are not playing well.

27). Marvin Lewis, Cincinnati- The Bengals are still undisciplined and this year it seems emotionless. Will the Bengals front office ever hold Lewis accountable?

26). Ben McAdoo, Giants- His team has a lot of holes, but they have enough offense to make the rest of the year interesting.

25). Jeff Fischer, Rams- He will probably be 7-9 or 6-10 again.

24). Mike McCoy, San Diego- The Chargers the last two years have had trouble finishing games.

23). Hue Jackson, Cleveland- I think he has done a good job with what he has to work with. Let’s face it the Browns are going to have to be patient for a few years.

22). Ron Rivera, Carolina- It’s not too late to save the season, but I don’t think they will.

21). Mike McCarthy, Green Bay- I know he wins a lot and makes the playoffs. My problem with him is his play calling and the fact that this team should be more than just a playoff team.

20). Adam Gase, Miami- Started off slow, but the Dolphins are starting to play much better.

19). Jim Caldwell, Detroit- He will move up quickly if they can start winning road games.

18). Dirk Koetter, Tampa Bay- Doing a good job, this is a team that should be in the playoffs by next year.

17). Rex Ryan, Buffalo- After a slow start the Bills are playing much better, will it be enough to make the playoffs?

16). Jay Gruden, Washington- Cousins seems to be getting better and better under Gruden if the defense can hold up things will get interesting in D.C.

15). Bill O’Brien, Houston- A Good coach, needs a QB to compete for a Super Bowl.

14). Bruce Arians, Arizona- Cardinals seem to be in trouble, can Arians turn it around?

13). John Harbaugh, Baltimore- Excellent coach, unfortunately, the Ravens are lacking in the talent department.

12). Sean Payton, New Orleans- The defense has improved and Brees is still a great QB.

11). Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh- Solid coach, but he either needs a healthy Ben or a better backup.

10). Mike Mularkey, Tennessee- The Titans are looking like a possible playoff team.

9). Gary Kubiak, Denver- Still mainly winning with defense, but they are still winning.

8). Doug Pederson, Philadelphia- Has done a great job turning the Eagles into contenders, in his first year.

7). Andy Reid, Kansas City- Top 10 as always, has the Chiefs looking like a playoff team again.

6). Pete Carroll, Seattle- Needs Russell Wilson to get healthy to compliment a great defense.

5). Jack Del Rio, Oakland- If the defense can improve the Raiders will be a serious Super Bowl contender.

4). Mike Zimmer, Minnesota- Has done an outstanding job, can he get his offensive line problem fixed in time to make a Super Bowl run?

3). Jason Garrett, Dallas- Never thought I would ever rank Garrett this high, but I have.

2). Dan Quinn, Atlanta- This team lacked toughness under Mike Smith, under Quinn they don’t. The defense is slowly improving and the offense may be the best in the NFL.

1). Bill Belichick, New England- 3-1 without Brady, undefeated with him.
