In an announcement, the Giants said that Hilliard would be permitted to participate in all practices and preseason games, but not be eligible to return to the active roster until after Week 2. He’ll be able to play in the team’s Week 3 game against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.

Through a post on social media Twitter, the American football player confirmed that his positive test was the result of an error in taking a prescription.
“I have been notified by the NFL that I have tested positive for a banned diuretic– Spironolactone (Canrenone),” Hilliard tweeted.

Hilliard’s career with the Giants
The 25-year-old has entered his second season with the Giants. After a brief ankle injury, Hilliard was placed on the injury bench and his 2021 season was cut short.
Prior to his injury, Hilliard was not drafted in 2021 and signed a free-agent contract with the 49ers. The contract only lasted for 3 months.
Other than that, Hilliard also appeared in two regular-season games. All of his 15 regular season games take place in dedicated teams.
His maximum contribution to the special team makes Hilliard projected to be Blake Martinez’s main reserve. As was reported by the media at the time, Martinez was continuing his rehabilitation from a torn ACL.
Hilliard’s fate after suspension
Under the new administrations of head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, Hilliard is on a long list to enter the Giants’ first training camp of the summer. Aside from that, a two-match suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs will not help him break into the team.

Despite this, the Giants didn’t have to worry about releasing Hilliard during the final 53-man roster cut at the end of camp because of his suspension. The Giants can keep Hilliard for the first two weeks of the regular season if they want to because Hilliard will be placed on the suspended list by default and then make a decision on his future.
Hilliard is one of the Giants’ players who has put forth outstanding performances this season. However, given his limited opportunities, it remains to be seen how he does at camp.
Hilliard’s strength
Hilliard’s ability to tackle in space and his incredible physical performance are two intriguing aspects about him. These two factors combine to make Hilliard’s appearance in practically every game impressive.
Although Hilliard was not known for his extraordinary level of athletic ability, he had good location skills. He also has the solid processing ability to watch the blocks develop in front of him when attacking.
His posture may not be as quite athletic as Martinez’s, but his strong abilities on the field makes him able to attack aggressively.
