Last year’s world champion Philadelphia Eagles will begin the defense of their Super Bowl title Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia against the Atlanta Falcons. Neither team looked good in the preseason, but remember last preseason the Cleveland Browns went 4-0 and we all know how their season turned out.
Can the Falcons offense get on track?
You still have the devastating combo of Matt Ryan to Julio Jones. The Falcons’ offense was terrible in the preseason but the starters did not see much playing time so I would not worry too much about that. The Falcons have a solid offensive line and a good ground game so they will be able to score points against the Eagles.
Make no mistake, the Eagles are Carson Wentz’s team and they will be better as a team when he returns, but Foles proved last year he can get it done on the biggest stage. In the preseason the starters on offense for the Eagles struggled and if they struggle against an athletic and fast Falcons defense they could be in for a long night.
The Eagles will be playing in front of an emotional jacked up home crowd who will still be basking in the glow of the Eagles first ever Super Bowl title. The key for the Falcons will be to withstand the first ten minutes of the game because after that initial rush of adrenaline, Matt Ryan and the falcon’s offense should be able to control this game.
The Falcons are 2.5 point underdogs in this game and it should be a tight, hard-fought battle. With that being said, if you are betting the point spread take the Falcons and the points. The Falcons offense will be able to score enough points in this game to get the win. Eagles fans please save the hate mail because in the end, when Wentz returns, the Eagles will once again be one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl.
