LAST YEAR, the NFC East was maybe the worst division in NFL history, and quite frankly, they don’t look much better this season. So let’s look at each team and the odds of them making the playoffs as a divisional champ?
Yes, the Cowboys look like the favorite to most in this division with the return of Dak Prescott. But in the immortal words of Lee Corso, “Not so fast”!!!! Sure, Dak was awesome when he played last year, but in the games, Prescott started the Cowboys were 1-4 in the games Prescott did start. The main issues in Dallas are coaching defense and offensive line. The Line has aged and is not what it used to be; on defense, the Cowboys should be a little better, but they were 23rd last year, and they didn’t improve enough to be a serious contender. Finally, Mike McCarthy is coaching, and I don’t think he was the right choice as head coach.
I think the Eagles are headed for a last-place showing in the NFC East, which means they will have a shot at the number one pick in the draft. Jalen Hurts at starting Quarterback would scare anybody, and the reason it’s scary is that Jalen Hurts is not and will never be a starting quarterback in the NFL, will at least not be a good one. The only saving grace for the Eagles is that they have one of the easiest schedules in the NFL, and with that being said, anything more than four wins would be a surprise.
Washington has a dominant defensive front, but that’s about all they have. Ryan Fitzpatrick will start, and as usual, there will be weeks he looks like a hall of Famer, but per usual, there will be more weeks when you wonder how he is still a starter in the NFL. A big issue is the Football team made the playoffs with a losing record last season, and they played the easiest schedule in the league; this year, they play the second toughest.
The Giants are my pick to win the NFC East. They have an outstanding secondary, and on offense, a healthy Saquon Barkley. The addition of Kenny Golladay gives them plenty of offensive weapons for Daniel Jones. The biggest question is Jones. If Jones can be average, the Giants will win this division. The Giants winning this division is also a great value pick to me as the odds should be just long enough to pay off very nicely at the end of the season.
