The Grueling Truth - Where Legends Speak / Jarvis Landry is That “Glue Guy” This Franchise Needed

Jarvis Landry is That “Glue Guy” This Franchise Needed

Can he put them into playoff contention?

There isn’t much to complain about when it comes to the Cleveland Browns and that is a rare thing for any Cleveland fan to say in the last 20 years. With new GM John Dorsey’s offseason acquisitions including the likes of WR Jarvis Landry (Mia), QB Tyrod Taylor (Buff) and cornerback Damarious Randall (GB), and then, of course, top draft picks QB Baker Mayfield (OU) and CB Denzel Ward (OSU), this team is ready to start winning some games.

While Josh Gordon, if he can stay clean, is the number one wide receiver on this team, it is clear to me that Jarvis Landry is the “glue guy” this franchise needs in order to build a winning culture. Last season with Miami, he had 112 receptions, nine touchdowns for 984 yards. The two years before he had over 1,1000 yards receiving.

Landry comes from a Miami team that did make the playoffs in 2016 with a 10-6 record, so he has been a part of a winning squad. Now, I wouldn’t compare Miami to the dynasties such as New England and Pittsburgh, but he knows what it is like to win games.

When Landry, 5’11” and 203 pounds, signed a five-year 75.5 million dollar extension (47 million guaranteed), it showed his commitment to Cleveland and this idea that even though he was traded here, he wants to be here. A squad of receivers and quarterback Tyrod Taylor got together in Miami and made a swag video displaying the new Browns, the cockiest “bad team” in the history of the NFL. But this is a new year and the tone has been set.

Every team needs a glue guy. For the Cavs when they made their championship run, it was Channing Frye. He got the different players on the team to join together as one force and it ended up with the Cavs winning the championship. While the Browns aren’t shooting for a Super Bowl this year, they certainly want to win a few games.

Culture is a very important part of sports and especially football. The Browns have been knocked around for many years, especially by our own division. It’s time for the team to throw a few punches back and set the tone for the future.

Not only will Jarvis Landry put up a thousand-yard season on the field, but he is going to help bring together a bunch of guys that haven’t felt what it is like to win. I am really excited to see Landry out on the field and what he can do to help the culture of the Browns.

Josh Gordon says the Browns have the best receiving corps in the league. That’s a bold statement and I bet it comes true.
