Denzel Ward’s impact was made known early on Sunday for the Cleveland Browns at First Energy Stadium.

Ward was rather a controversial draft pick when he was selected before DE Bradley Chubb. The former Buckeye cornerback made a splash in his homecoming debut today by holding Antonio Brown to under 100 yards.

The No. 4 overall draft pick intercepted Ben Roethlisberger for the first time with 5:32 remaining in the first quarter. The pass was intended for superstar wide receiver, Antonio Brown.

The Nordonia High School product had the opportunity to play about 30 minutes away from his hometown and he did not disappoint. His second interception came with 48 seconds remaining in the first half. The Browns’ defense, led by Ward and Myles Garrett, is what kept the team alive in the tie ballgame.

Despite Ward’s valiant effort in the secondary, the Browns tie the Steelers 21-21.

According to ESPN, Ward is the first player with two interceptions in his first career NFL game since fellow Browns CB Selwyn Jones did so in September of 1993.

Ward became the fourth-youngest player in the NFL with two interceptions in one game.
