With the addition of running back C.J. Gable to the Eskimos, this fourth consecutive matchup of these two teams in the CFL West Final looks to be a very interesting game. The Eskimos ended the season on a hot streak and the Stampeders ended not playing well. Now I know a lot of the reason for Calgaryβs downturn was the fact that they had everything under wraps with a month to go, so the big question is: Can the Stamps turn it on when they need to?
Reilly is maybe the best quarterback in the league and has weapons all over the place now. Gable has replaced the injured John White, who got hurt early on in the 2017 campaign. With wide receivers like Adarius Bowman, Brandon Zylstra and Derel Walker, Reilly has numerous weapons at his disposal. The Stampeders do counter with what from the start of the season to the end was the CFL’s best defense, but they have a huge challenge in front of them in this contest.
Messam is Gableβs equivalent for Calgary, because when heβs on, he opens up the passing game more for Bo Levi Mitchell. If the Eskimos can limit Messam there chance increase tenfold to win this game.
The best way to slow down Edmonton’s seemingly unstoppable offense will be for the Stamps to pressure Reilly; if they can get pressure on Reilly, they will win the game.
These teams are more similar than you think. At this point in time, I really like the Eskimos offense and the Stamps defense β that matchup will more than likely decide this game. I like C.J. Gable to have a big day and if he does, it will be harder for the Stamps to pin their ears back and get after Reilly.
Prediction: Edmonton Eskimos 26, Calgary Stampeders 24.
