Like the title says: The following are The Grueling Truth’s previews and predictions for the four games slated for CFL week 14, with pointspreads provided by , a sponsor of The Grueling Truth Network. and I’m sure most of us can agree on at least three of these outcomes…
Ottawa Redblacks (+7) at Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Redblacks are very much still in the hunt to win the East the problem for them lies in the QB position while both starter Trevor Harris and backup Drew Tate are out. That means third-stringer Ryan Lindley to take the reigns of the RedBlacks offense. Lindley is a capable backup but asking him to go to Winnipeg and get a win is asking way too much. The Bombers are led by a red hot QB in Matt Nichols, and the Bombers look like the biggest threat to Calgary come playoff time. I look for the Bombers to end this game by halftime.
Prediction: Winnipeg 34, Ottawa 10
Hamilton Tiger-Cats (+12) at B.C. Lions
Believe it or not, Hamilton is still very much alive in the East division, but make no mistake: They have a very small margin for error. New head coach June Jones seems to have the Ti-Cats playing much harder as a team – always something Jones has been known for. On the other side of the ball, the B.C. Lions have a definite problem at the QB position where Jonathon Jennings has been a turnover machine. While no reason exists to make me think Jennings is going to play any better this week, I just think the Lions are a more complete team and will take a close one here.
Prediction: BC Lions 27, Hamilton 20
Montreal Alouettes (+6.5) at Toronto Argonauts
This is a last chance for the Montreal Alouettes to save their playoff hopes. The problem here would be the fact that the Alouettes look like the worst team in the CFL right now, and it doesn’t seem that will change any time soon. Look for the Argonauts and QB Ricky Ray to cruise in this game.
Prediction: Toronto 38, Montreal 14
Calgary Stampeders at Saskatchewan Roughriders (NL)
A month ago, if I had told you that this would be the best matchup of week 14, you would have called me crazy! The Roughriders will have QB Kevin Glenn back at the helm and he has the best WR corps in the CFL to throw to. The Stampeders will counter with the CFL’s stingiest defense and most consistent QB in Bo Levi Mitchell – but I’ll go with the Riders in the upset here.
Prediction: Saskatchewan 26, Calgary 24
