It’s Divisional Semi-Final week in the CFL. Sunday is sure to be an amazing afternoon with two really good football games. Weather could be a factor in Calgary, while the Alouettes are going to be without two key receivers. There should be some great storylines to follow! Let’s see who I see advancing to the Division finals.
(8-10) Edmonton Eskimos @ (10-8) Montreal Alouettes Sunday 1:00pm ET
Edmonton has mostly crawled to the finish line this season. They haven’t played great and are in for a tough test in Montreal. The big thing they do have going for them is that Trevor Harris is battle tested when it comes to playoff games whereas Vernon Adams Jr. is not. If the nerves get to Adams and the Alouettes then the Eskimos could pull off the upset. For Montreal it comes down to whether or not their pass defence is up to the task against a very good Edmonton aerial attack. I think the Alouettes match up nicely in every spot except their pass defence against the Eskimos pass offence. We will see what happens, but I’m taking the home team.
Prediction: Alouettes win 30-25
(11-7) Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ (12-6) Calgary Stampeders Sunday4:30pm ET
The Blue Bombers have some new life at QB. They won their last regular season game against Calgary with Zach Collaros at quarterback and he looked really good. The playoffs are a different beast and Collaros has only played one game and three plays all season. He has to go into Calgary where the Stamps don’t lose very often and beat them for a second time in three weeks. With the weather possibly being a factor I think it’s all about Andrew Harris and whether or not he can go off. As Harris goes, I think the Bombers go on Sunday. For Calgary They need to find a way to establish a run game if the field or football are slippery due to snow and cold weather. This Calgary team has not been good on the ground and that could eventually be their demise, I just don’t think it will kill them this week.
