Upset alert! The majority of NFL analysts picked the undefeated Denver Broncos to beat the Buffalo Bills in Week 3 while at home in Buffalo, but the Bills handed them their first loss by defeating the Broncos 26-16.
Can We Talk About That Outstandingย Bills Defense?
The Bills defense is a formidable force when it comes to thwarting their opponents attempts to score that touchdown when in the red zone. For the past three weeks, they have not allowed a single passing touchdown. They are ranked #2 in red zone defense and #1 in fewest points allowed per game. Clearly Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott’s switch to a 4-3 defense from Rex Ryan’s 3-4 is boding quite well even early on in the season.
I’ve got to hand it to the rookie Cornerback Tre’Davious White, who capitalized on a terrible throw by Broncos QB Trevor Siemian for his first career interception in the fourth quarter. He currently has 7 tackles under his belt and leads the league in passes defended with a total of 4. The former LSU Tiger is having a good season so far and I look forward to what he can produce as the season progresses.
Buffalo’s passing game was missing in last week’s game against the Carolina Panthers, however, it sprang up this time around against the stout Broncos defense. Despite only racking up 213 passing yards, Tyrod Taylor was able to make key passes to carry his team to an unexpected victory and pull off the upset. It was by far his best game as a Bill.
The Bills signing of former Seattle Seahawk Steven Hauschka is certainly starting to pay off. He was named AFC special teams player of the week as made all four field goals including impressively kicking a 55-yarder in the second quarter and a 53-yarder in the fourth. A well deserved award for the kicker this week.
After a crucial third down stop by the Broncos defense, Von Miller pulled a “too slow” move by faking to give a hand to Tyrod Taylor who was still on the ground in the fourth quarter. They were both exchanging laughs, however, it was not a laughing matter to the referees. The result? A killer 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was called at a pivotal part in the game. It was a mistake that Miller later said he regrets in making and essentially cost them the game.
This week, Buffalo travels to Atlanta to square off against the defending NFC Champions and will be a huge test for this Bills team.
