After a crushing 34-21 loss to the New York Jets on Thursday night in the Meadowlands, the Buffalo Bills had sufficient time to put their loss behind them and focus on regrouping in order to prepare for when Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints come to town. The Bills are undefeated at home. Will they keep that winning at home streak going? It will be a tough task to take on against the 6-2 Saints.
Here’s what to watch for on Sunday:
Welcome to Buffalo, KB
One of the most shocking moments of the trade deadline on Halloween was when the Bills traded for receiver Kelvin Benjamin from the Carolina Panthers for a couple of 2018 draft picks (3rd and 7th) in a buzzer-beater move only a few minutes before the deadline. Benjamin was understanably inactive for the Thursday night game against the Jets, but with enough preparation in learning the offensive scheme and practice, he should be ready to join and help fortify the thin Bills wide receiver corps. Rookie receiver Zay Jones was ruled out for playing on Sunday due to injury. Now is the time for the newcomer to help his new team out.
Marshon Lattimore is in the House
Saints Rookie corner Marshon Lattimore is going to put the Bills wide receiver corps to the test as he is known to be a major threat in shutting down wide receivers. Per Pro Football Focus, graded at 34.0, Lattimore has the lowest passer rating when targeted. He was also named Defensive Rookie of the Month for the month of October. He will be a tough challenge to the Bills offense.
Saints Run Game Stop
The Saints run game is improving and quite heavy, which is something the Bills’ run defense will need to put a halt on this Sunday. So far the Saints have been running the ball on 44.6 percent of their offensive plays One running back in particular is Alvin Kamara, who had 2 touchdowns, 68 rushing yards, and 84 receiving yards in only 16 touches last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bills’ run defense will need to focus their efforts on shutting him down.
Shady Back in Buffalo
Speaking of the run game, the Bills run game was diminshed by the solid Jets defensive stand on Thursday night. Bills running back LeSean McCoy had only gained a putrid 25 yards on 12 carries for the night. They will need to spark their explosive run game against the Saints in Week 10. A stat to keep in mind is the the Saints defense has allowed a total of nine 20-yard or longer rushes this season. The Bills will need to capitalize on this Saints weakness in order to stay undefeated at home and improve to 6-3.
