AFC South Free Agency Report Cards…So Far

AFC South Free Agency

The NFC East, AFC EastNFC North, and NFC South Free Agency report cards are in. It is now time for the AFC South.

Additions and Re-signs:

Jabaal Sheard (DE- NE), John Simon (DE- Texans), Jack Doyle (TE), Sean Spence (LB- Tenn), Margus Hunt (DE- Cin), Robert Turbin (RB), Brian Schwenke (G- Tenn), Barkevious Mingo (LB- NE), Kamar Aiken (WR- Balt), Brandon D Williams (TE- Sea), Al Woods (DT- Tenn), Jeff Locke (P- Min)

Zach Kerr (DT/DE- Den), Hugh Thornton (G- Atl), Josh McCrary (LB- Jax), Mike Adams (S- Car), Chris Carter (DE- Wash)

The Colts appear to be moving on so far from Robert Mathis, Arthur Jones and Erik Walden, but have added some veterans on defense. The Mike Adams loss will probably hurt a bit unless they can draft a good replacement.

At this point, the Colts have similar issues as last season: offensive line and defense shortfalls. Keeping Jack Doyle was smart, but they really have to beef up the defense and keep Andrew Luck upright.

Colts Grade: D

Additions and Re-signs:

A.J. Bouye (CB- Hou), Calias Campbell (DT/DE- Ariz), Barry Church (S- Dal), Abry Jones (DT), Patrick Omameh (G), Bryan Walters (WR), Mychal Rivera (TE- Oak), Arrelious Benn (WR), Josh Wells (T), Lerentee McCray (DE- Buf), Malliciah Goodman (DE- Atl), Josh McNary (LB- Ind), Tyler Shatley (C), Stefan Charles (DT – Lions)

Prince Amukamara (CB- Chi), Joe Banyard (RB- Buf), Kelvin Beachum (T- Jets), Jordan Hill (DT- Det), Davon House (CB- GB), Luke Joeckel (G- Sea), John Cyprien (S- Tenn)

The Jaguars usually win free agency, but as we all know, that doesn’t necessarily translate into more victories.

Replacing Prince Amukamara and John Cyprien with A.J. Bouye and Barry Church are likely upgrades. Calias Campbell will be a sure anchor on the defense, along with Stefan Charles.

If last year’s rookie class develops into what they think they have, the Jaguars’ defense will be very good.

This was a good month for Jacksonville.

Jaguars Grade: A-

Additions and Re-signs:

Ryan Griffin (TE), Shane Lechler (P), Nick Novak (K)

Don Jones (DB- SF), Quintin Demps (S- Chi), John Simon (DE- Ind), A.J. Bouye (CB- Jax), Aday Aboushi (G- Sea),

The Texans have stood pat and are playing the waiting game for a quarterback like Tony Romo.

They will feel the loss of A.J. Bouye.

Texans Grade: D

Additions and Re-signs:

John Cyprien (S- Jax), Logan Ryan (CB- NE), Karl Klug (DT/DE), Brynden Trawick (S- Oak), Tim Lelito (G- NO), Nate Palmer (LB), Eric Weems (WR- Atl), Daren Bates (LB- Oak), Matt Cassel (QB), Slyvester Williams (DT/DE- Den)

Kendall Wright (WR- Chi), Sean Spence (LB- Ind), Brian Schwenke (G- Ind), Al Woods (DT- Ind), Bryon Bell (T- Dal), Anthony Fasano (TE- Mia), Chance Warmack (G- Phi), Antwon Blake (CB- NYG)

The Titans look like they will be the team to beat in the South at this point. They upgraded their secondary by signing Logan Ryan and John Cyprien. Sylvester Williams should help them up front.

The offense still looks very good as long as they stay healthy.

Titans Grade: B+
