6 Grueling Truth’s we learned from week 5 of the 2021 NFL season

MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA - SEPTEMBER 19: Quarterback Josh Allen #17 of the Buffalo Bills raises his arms to signal a touchdown in the first half during the game against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on September 19, 2021 in Miami Gardens, Florida. (Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)

1) The Buffalo Bills are the best team at this moment

The Bills didn’t just win in Kansas City; they dominated the Chiefs. Josh Allen was the best quarterback on the field, and while that’s impressive, the Bills defense was even more amazing! They held the Chiefs to just 20 points and just 7 in the second half. The Bills are a physical defensive team, and you combine that with a high-powered offensive team, and you have a Bills team that has to be the favorites right now to win the Super Bowl.

2) Trey Lance should not be ahead of Jimmy G.

It drives me crazy to see all of these 49ers fans who think Trey Lance is the answer this season. The truth of the matter is when healthy Jimmy G. is better than Trey Lance. I don’t see Lance ever being as good as Jimmy G. Remember the last time the 49ers went to the Super Bowl, Jimmy G. was the quarterback.

3) The Packers have the talent, and the Bengals need a coach

In one of the craziest finishes that the NFL has ever seen, the Bengals and Packers showed us that a field goal is not the easiest thing in the world to make. The crazy thing is both teams have excellent kickers. The Packers, though, got the win, and they showed with guys like A.J. Dillon stepping up that they do have a cast of characters around Aaron Rodgers that is good enough to get to the Super Bowl. The Bengals showed a playoff roster with a Mickey Mouse head coach. Zac Taylor played it safe way too much, as he almost always does. The Bengals have a high-powered offense but somehow still have not scored more than 24 points in a game.

4) Arizona is built to last this season

Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury is lauded as an offensive mastermind, and rightfully so, but last year the Cardinals imploded in the second half of the season behind a porous defense. However, the Cardinals defense has improved, and it has been enhanced to the point where I think a second-half collapse is improbable this season.

5) Trouble in Miami

In 2019 the Dolphins were horrible, but they made moves and had a ton of draft capital. Fast forward two years, and it is becoming painfully evident that the Dolphins missed on a lot of drafts picks and free agents, and now Head Coach Brian Flores seat is starting to heat up. The Dolphins were beaten badly in Tampa Bay and were largely listless in the second half. The train is coming off the rails in Miami.

6) Baker Mayfield is severely underrated

Baker Mayfield is a huge reason why the Browns are a serious Super Bowl contender, and nobody ever ranks him as one of the best quarterbacks in the game. But they really should, as Baker has missed some of his receiving options due to injury this season, and he is still playing at a high level. Herbert and Mayfield put on a show on Sunday, and we may see a rematch come playoff time.
