Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams has been with the Bills for 11 seasons. Going into his 12th season with them at 33 years old, we could be seeing him on his way out. Williams has been the heart and soul for the Bills defense since arriving in Buffalo. Drafted in the fifth round in 2006 by the Bills, he still plays like he is 26.
Players have come and gone on that defensive line. Williams has stayed with Buffalo because he pours his soul into the team and puts them before himself. He has been a true leader for both the defense and the team as a whole. He’s aggressive, he’s passionate and he plays every down like it’s his last one.
In 11 seasons, Williams has 535 tackles, 40.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 1 interception. While he isn’t the most outstanding player on the defense, he shows the most heart out of everyone. When you watch him play, you see him play with a motor and until the whistle blows. I’ve never seen a player have as much heart like Williams. The only player that might have had as much heart as Williams was Fred Jackson.
With Sean McDermott making moves that are best for business, we may not see Williams back in a Bills jersey after 2017. It would not be anything personal, just business. Williams is going to be 34 going into this season. He’s getting up there in age, which will hurt his chances of coming back. The only way I believe that he comes back next year is if he records 10+ sacks and close to 100 tackles. While it’s very hard to do that, nothing is impossible.
If 2017 is Williams’ last season in Buffalo, I think it’s his last season in the NFL. I don’t see him playing for another team unless it’s a Super Bowl contender. He has been the leader of the Bills defense for quite sometime and I believe he wants to keep that reputation.
