CFL Power Rankings, Week 18: 105th Grey Cup in sight

CFL Week 18 Power Rankings

Now we come to the finish…in CFL week 17, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Edmonton Eskimos clinched playoff spots, neither easily and the latter only by dint of some almost cliché Mike Reilly heroics in the fourth quarter. Additionally, the Calgary Stampeders’ win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats clinched the no. 3 spot in the Eastern side of the bracket … for the Esks, Saskatchewan Roughriders or BC Lions. So who has the momentum with the 105th Grey Cup in sight? The Grueling Truth ranks the CFL teams, 1 to 9…

1) Calgary Stampeders – The Calgary Stampeders scrapped out a 28-25 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in a defensive battle at Tim Hortons Field Friday night. A 17-yard Rene Paredes field goal – set up by a pass interference penalty on Hamilton – with zeros on the clock helped lift Calgary to a victory that was tough-sledding throughout. As per usual, the Stamps found a way to win against a vastly improved Ti-Cats team.

Next up: host Saskatchewan Roughriders

2) Winnipeg Blue Bombers – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers bounced back from their tough Week 16 loss by defeating the BC Lions 26-20 in a strong defensive performance at home on Saturday. The win helped the Bombers to clinch a playoff spot.

Next up: at Toronto Argonauts

3) Ottawa Redblacks – The Redblacks are a totally different team with QB Trevor Harris on the field. The Redblacks seem to be peaking at the right time as this huge come-from-behind victory over a good Roughrider team proves.

Next up: bye week

4) Saskatchewan Roughriders – The Riders offense was on fire for much of the game against Ottawa. Duron Carter was simply uncoverable for most of this game as the Riders built a lead that they would give up at the end. The Riders are still a big-time contender come playoff time.

Next up: at Calgary Stampeders

5) Edmonton Eskimos – Derel Walker’s six-yard touchdown catch with 57 seconds left lifted the Edmonton Eskimos to a 30-27 come-from-behind win over the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday night in Edmonton. The Eskimos seem to be getting back on track and look to be dangerous come playoff time.

Next up: at B.C. Lions

6) Hamilton Tiger-Cats – The Ti-Cats proved once again how improved they are as they battled the Stamps all the way to the wire.

Next up: at Montreal Alouettes

7) Toronto Argonauts – The Argos lost a close one in Edmonton and now find themselves in a life-and-death struggle with the Redblacks for East supremacy.

Next up: host Winnipeg Blue Bombers

8) B.C. Lions – The Lions continue to find ways to lose close games.

Next up: host Edmonton Eskimos

9) Montreal Alouettes – No explanation should be needed on why the Alouettes are last.

Next up: host Hamilton Ti-Cats
