College Football Week 7: Beating the spread

How to bet the biggest games of the week!

Last week I was 6-6 ats, which brings our record for the year to 40-26, not too bad!

No. 10 Michigan State (-3.5) at Indiana (noon, FS1)

The Spartans could be looking ahead to the upcoming battle with Michigan. But even if they do, the Hoosiers have significant issues on offense as they have lost their starting quarterback Michael Pennix and the running back depth chart is depleted. The Spartans are a hard-nosed, physical football team, and Indiana is not. Pick Spartans -3.5

No. 12 Oklahoma State at No. 25 Texas (-5.5) (noon, FOX)

Texas is coming off a tough emotional loss, while Oklahoma State had a bye week to prepare. The last few years have seen almost all of these games between these two teams be close games. I think this will be no different. Pick Oklahoma State +5.5

Auburn at No. 17 Arkansas (-3.5) (noon, CBS)

Auburn has won the last 5 in this series, and if Bo Nix is on point, the Tigers will be a tough out. With all that being said, I love the culture change in Arkansas, and I think at home, the Razorbacks are the best bet. Pick Arkansas -3.5

No. 20 Florida (-9.5) at LSU (noon, ESPN)

The Tigers will be in desperation mode, and even though they have been a mess this season, the history of this series is close games. The Gators are a little overrated, and 9 points here is way too much to give the home team. Pick LSU +9.5

No. 11 Kentucky at No. 1 Georgia (-23.5) (3:30 p.m., CBS)

This is a massive spread for basically two top 10 teams playing each other. The Bulldogs have dominated this series, winning the last 11 games. I think the lack of respect for Kentucky gets you a great value on this line. Pick Kentucky +23.5

Purdue at No. 2 Iowa (-11.5) (3:30 p.m., ABC)

This is a trap game for Iowa after coming off a massive win against Penn State. The problem is Purdue is not very good and add in the fact that Iowa is at home. Pick Iowa -11.5

No. 19 BYU at Baylor (-4.5) (3:30 p.m., ESPN2)

BYU is coming off a bad loss to Boise State, ending their dream of a possible college playoff appearance. Baylor will run the ball and control tempo for a decisive win. Pick Baylor -4.5

No. 5 Alabama (-17.5) at Mississippi State (7 p.m., ESPN)

Alabama coming off a loss should be scary for the Bulldogs! The Bulldogs have had a week to prepare while Bama was getting beat, but that won’t matter. Pick Alabama -17.5

TCU at No. 4 Oklahoma (-11.5) (7:30 p.m., ABC)

Oklahoma’s offense came alive in the second half behind backup quarterback Caleb Williams, and I think that will continue. Pick Oklahoma -11.5
