As we know, sports betting in the US has all but exploded with popularity. The Great White North is potentially on a similar path as more provinces allow legal sports betting with some of the biggest sportsbooks around.
A big contributing factor to online gambling is the daily fantasy sports (DFS). The US has some of the biggest DFS betting sites in the world and they appear to be growing larger every year. The question is, will you have to make two separate accounts even if the sportsbook offers sports betting and DFS gaming on the same site?
There are some of the biggest DFS and sports betting names available in Ontario right now that include the likes of DraftKings and FanDuel. These two are easily the biggest names in the DFS industry right now as they continue to rake in crazy revenue numbers each month off of their DFS offering alone.
DraftKings and FanDuel both have a comprehensive sportsbook and a quality DFS feature as well. With that said, if you have ever visited these sites you will notice that the sportsbook, casino and DFS parts of their site all link you to an almost new site when you switch pages. This was our first clue when checking this out. Usually, if you are using one account, everything on the site will have the same feel and it won’t ever look like you are on a different site when using different features from the same operator.
So, after more investigation of both the FanDuel and DraftKings platforms, we found that we were unable to place sports bets after opening up our DFS accounts. This was true of both sites and it seems to be a recurring theme with most DFS sites that also offer sports betting. As it stands, you will need to create two separate accounts with DraftKings and FanDuel. One for DFS and one for sports betting as well.
Some players have asked if they will ever be able to simply operate off of one account when they sign up to these sites and that is a fair question. The answer does not look promising though. When you take a look at how long DraftKings and FanDuel have operated in the US it does not make for promising reading. They have kept their account creation situation exactly the same for as long as they have been operational in the US. So, don’t expect them to change this anytime soon in Ontario, either.
With that said, we did a little more digging on the FanDuel platform and found that there is an option to sync your sports betting account with your DFS account. We believe that this means you will only have to sign in with one of them to have access to the other. What this sync really means, we can’t say for certain just yet but we hope that it means you won’t have to connect a deposit method to both the accounts separately.
The ideal future for DFS betting in Ontario would obviously be one account for all situations. Having to create a sports betting account and a DFS account might be viewed as an inconvenient task that no one really wants to go through. The DFS sites that are available in Ontario are all excellent but this last little speed bump is preventing them from being the absolute best.
Daily fantasy sports have become immensely popular in the US today. With that said, there are still places in North America, including parts of Canada where DFS is still not offered. Our guide at TheGruelingTruth.com sheds some light on whether you can play on DFS sites right now.
Some online sportsbooks will require that you create multiple accounts on their platforms for each gambling feature they offer. Our guide lets you know if you will need to do the same for your sports betting and DFS needs on the best platforms in Ontario.
Not all DFS sites were created equal which means that some of them will have a more diverse range than others. Our guide at TheGruelingTruth.com gives you an indication of which of these sites has the best DFS sports range.
