The Miami Hurricanes against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is always a big game, but this one is no doubt the biggest since the late 1980s/early 90s. Mark Richtβs plan to get the Canes back to national prominence has panned out quicker than anybody could have expected. On the other hand, the Irish seemed to be nearing the end of the rope with head coach Brian Kelly, but much to the surprise of most people the Irish are a factor on the national stage.
Miami hasnβt gotten a lot of respect, but last weekβs dominating performance against a very good Virginia Tech team should have answered a lot of questions about the Hurricanes. The Irish schedule has not been the greatest, either, Truth be told, their one defeat, a loss to the Georgia Bulldogs by a point at home didnβt seem like a good thing at the time, but with Georgia now ranked no. 1, that one-point loss has not been a killer at all.
Canes quarterback Malik Rosier has not been impressive this year and because of that, Miamiβs offense as a whole has struggled. The win against the Hokies was nice, but they struggled to put the game away when just an average offensive performance would have capped it much sooner. The Canes defense was dominant last week and it will have to be again this week if the Canes are to have any chance to win.
Notre Dame lost their starting quarterback last week, their star RB Josh Adams went out of the game early, and Notre Dame was still able to put up huge numbers. The strength of the Irish has to be the offensive line β possibly the best in the country and a big reason that the Irish can sustain injuries to βskill positionβ players and still rack up yards.
Notre Dame will win this game up front with their offensive line and will have a ton of success running the ball. The Canes will not be able to generate enough of an offensive attack to keep up with the explosive Irish. Final score: Notre Dame 31, Miami 17
