Even though the touchdown was achieved thanks to a five-yard pass from Young to Burton, some might also argue that Eli Gold deserves credit as Chris Stewart claims “this is Eli’s job.”

Many people responded to this first touchdown on social media, particularly on Twitter. For example, an account who goes by the username @mikerodak said that “Georgia transfer Jermaine Burton scores Alabama’s first touchdown of the season.”

Another account, @austinsrandolph, tweeted: “Georgia transfer Jermaine Burton scores Alabama’s first touchdown of the season.”

At the same time, @jetsprime claimed that Burton must hit the crimson crane, saying, “I’m going to need Jermaine Burton to hit the crimson crane at some point this season.”

Considering the departures of Jameson Williams and John Metchie, Burton is anticipated to play a significant role in the Alabama offense, according On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings.

Burton was also regarded as one of the top receivers on his last squad, where he averaged 27.7 offensive snaps and received 53 targets per game.

After appearing in 15 games for Georgia over the previous two seasons, Burton announced in January that he was transferring to Alabama from Georgia. A total of 26 passes were caught by Burton for 497 yards and five touchdowns in 2021.

Early this year, Burton was ranked No. 9 overall transfer on the 247Sports Transfer Portal, sharing the position with Mario Williams. According to reports, Burton is the third transfer among Alabama’s top 10 prospects to make the decision.
