High School Football Spotlight: Nathan Smith-Jacques5’10 165 WR/LB/TE/special teams  Columbus Mifflin high school

In the Spotlight!

I was able to see this young man and his team play just once and in that game, the one thing that stuck out to me the most was his ability to get downfield on special teams and find the ball. Another thing that was impressive was his willingness to block whoever was in front of him. He is listed at 5-10-165 but plays like he weighs 250. Speed, he looks to have enough to get from point A to point B as fast as he needs to which in part explains his ability to get to the ball.

1- 2021 will be your final year of high school football. What are you doing in the offseason to prepare you for this as far as becoming a better player?

What I’m doing in the off-season is working hard and training you never know when the offers can kick in.

After high school, I plan on going to OSU for sports industry and begin to work on my career but I do plan on walking on If I don’t get any offers.

I have heard from one coach shout out to coach Sperone at Fitchburg state him and his staff been showing love.

4- As a fan, I was really happy to see the Columbus City League having Thursday and Saturday afternoon games. As a player do you like that format or do you prefer the games to be played only on Friday Nights?

I like the format me and the guys will always be hungry and ready to play on Friday’s so it’s better for us to play on Thursday.

5- Is there that one team you enjoy beating more than others? If yes, which school is that and why?

I really don’t have a team that I like to beat it’s just a lot of competition and competitiveness.

6- A lot of schools in the City seem to have low numbers. As a player what do you do, if anything to try and get others at Mifflin to come out to play football?

The way I bring other players out I tell them we got a good program going on with good coaches and a supportive fan base from the parents.

7- Do you prefer offense, defense, or special teams? Why?

I really don’t prefer any side of the ball along as I’m playing and we get the win.

The best advice a coach gave me was to keep pushing and don’t give up he made me do a lot of extra things while others watched that how I know he believed in me.

9- Do you play any other sports for Mifflin?

Unfortunately, I don’t play any other sport right now but I’m thinking about track

10- With covid causing so many problems what was the hardest part for you as a player?

The hardest part with COVID this year was that we only had 5 games in CCS and other teams played more and I think that wasn’t fair.
