High School Football Spotlight: Maurice Diawara-Columbus Crusaders- Kicker/WR/DE

Maurice Diawara is in the spotlight!

6-4 193 POUNDS

Maurice is a hidden gem in Columbus, Ohio only because he plays for the Columbus Crusaders. Any college coach out there needing a kicker should be looking at him. He has the raw talent that brings with it a powerful leg. You put a good long snapper in front of him and a holder who can get the ball down as quickly as needed and you have a kid that is going to give you three points. At 6-4, he can be brought in on third down as a receiver and get you those tough yards.

1-In reading the roster it says you came from Columbus Whetstone. What was the reason you are now at the Columbus Crusaders?

I  am now at the Columbus Crusaders because I felt that the crusaders had more to offer for me in the future. My brother use to play for the crusaders and told me all about the team and it made me wanna be a part of a brotherhood like the Crusaders.

2-What is the best part of playing for the Crusaders?

The best part about playing for the Crusaders is that they are all like a family. They never look the other way, they always search for a way to lift each and everyone’s spirits.

3- You are listed as A wide receiver/Defensive lineman on the roster but when I watched you guys you also kicked. Which position do you like best?

That is a hard question because I love Receiving and Kicking. I would have to go with Kicking as my favorite position because I have a lot of experience with that position and I am best at kicking.

4-When I watched your game you looked to have somewhere between 40-45 yard range on your field goals. So, what is your range, and what has been your longest kick in practice and then in a game?

My range is around 50 to 56 yards at most. My longest kick in practice is about 50 and the longest I have kicked in a game was about 54 when I was hyped up.

5- How much offense and defense did you play this past season?

I played a good amount of receiver during games. I was a second-string Y.  I would take over mostly in the 3rd series or so. I did less defense and more focusing on kicking and receiver.

6- Do you play any other sports for the Crusaders? If so which ones?

No, I do not, but I do Wrestling, and Track also. I am planning on doing flag football this coming 2021.

7- Which school in the league do you most want to beat?

One school in the league I would like to beat is Cincinnati landmark Christian. I feel that we weren’t at our best during that game. We could have beat them if we were in the right state of mind.

8- Go into your senior season. What are your personal goals and then your team goals?

My goals are to get some offers and to get my grades up to a higher percentage. I think a good goal for our team is to become undefeated we almost did last season.

9- Which field do you like playing your homes games at the best. The small one I watched you guys play Dohn (Cookston Field) or the one over at Otterbein?

I like playing at Otterbein because it’s turf and we have had great games at Otterbein. Otterbein has the stadium lights so we can play night games there too.

10- As far as non-league games go which school do you want to play the most?

I would like to play the Whetstone Braves. I think it would be a good battle against each other and I came from there.
