Great news casino gamer! This is because it looks like legal online casino gaming is to launch in Ontario. Keep reading to see why the province is set to become Canada’s casino gaming hotspot!
It looks like 2022 is going to be a massive year for gambling in Ontario. This is because both online casino gaming and sports betting are due to launch soon. While there are still plenty of things to be decided, the move could come as soon as April 4. So let’s have a closer look at the Ontario casino revolution!
Ontario has a proud tradition of having a wide range of physical casinos dotted around the province. These ranged from the gaming establishments run by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation from Brantford to Thunder Bay, and then there are also some notable private casinos like Caesars Windsor.
However, Canadian law has been pretty slow in keeping up with the latest online gaming trends. This meant that there was no legal framework in place to keep people in Ontario safe from being duped by the many unlicensed offshore casino sites that targeted themselves at you as a Canadian player. Thankfully, all of that has now changed and the wheels are in motion for online casinos gaming to land in Ontario as early as April 2022.
It was thanks to bill C-218 that online gambling in Canada took a big step forward. This bill was approved by the Canadian Parliament in summer 2021 and it effectively meant that each province now has the power to decide whether or not to legalize sports betting and casino gaming.
Ontario was the first Canadian province to take a step towards permitting online gambling. This can be seen with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario that is setting up a special iGaming Ontario organization. The iGaming Ontario organization will have the job of issuing licenses to the potential online casino brands in the state and regulating them to ensure a safe and fair service.
Hopes are high that there could be well over a dozen online casinos to launch in Ontario on April 4, 2022. Of these there are expected to be a few homegrown gaming brands, although the bulk of the casino sites could come from the US or beyond.
After all, Ontario shares a border with Michigan which is one of the few US states to have legalized online casino gaming. As such, it’s easy to imagine some of Michigan’s legal casino sites such as BetMGM, DraftKings and FanDuel setting up shop in Ontario.
Of course, all of these brands are well known for their sports betting products, and we’d expect each operator to launch both their sports betting and casino gaming platforms at the same time. Each of these operators have earned acclaim through featuring a wide range of slots and table games from respected developers, so people in Ontario should enjoy no shortage of gaming entertainment.
One thing that might be different is the permitted payments, and gamers in Canada might expect to make deposits with an Interac bank transfer. But apart from that, it looks like things are going to get very interesting for you!
