Good news for all sports fans in Ontario! This is because they can enjoy online single-game game sports betting in the province in 2022. Keep reading to see when bets can be put down.
At the moment, it looks like single-same sports betting will be legal in Ontario from April 4, 2022. But what is single-game sports betting and what sports can be bet on? Take a look below to learn more about the Ontario sports betting revolution!
The major breakthrough to single-game sports betting in Canada came in 2021. This was when bill C-218 was brought before Parliament and it effectively allowed each individual Canadian province the right to legalize single-game sports betting.
Although the bill was fought over in the Senate for many months, it finally was passed on June 23, 2021. From here it was a matter of getting the legal framework in place before legal sports betting in Canada became a reality on August 27, 2021. Given Ontarioโs famous sporting heritage, it was little surprise to see that the province would lead the charge for single-game sports betting in the country.
We should mention the fact that a form of sports betting has already been legal in Ontario. This is the kind of parlay betting that was featured at OLG ProLine. Parlay betting means that you make two or more predictions and they all have to win for you to win your bets. For example, you could try a parlay bet on the Maple Leafs, Oilers and Canadiens to each win their next games. As such, parlay betting is very difficult and so, many people were eagerly waiting for the arrival of single-game sports betting.
Thankfully single-game sports betting is now here in Ontario. This means that you can simply bet on the outcome of a single game. It could be something like the Raptor to beat the Nets in the NBA or the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to beat the Ottawa Redblacks in the CFL. Just remember that the only thing this law doesnโt cover is horse racing.
The good news is that there is an impressive number of legal Ontario sportsbooks getting ready to take your single-game sports bets. Although the final line-up has yet to be unveiled, it is believed that there are well over a dozen online sportsbooks looking to gain licensing and regulation from the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission.
A significant number of these sportsbooks are expected to be US-based with major brands like FanDuel, DraftKings and Caesars Sportsbook expected to join the fray. But such is the appeal of Ontario that many betting brands could come from further afield with the UKโs Bet365 and Australiaโs PointsBet being particularly good examples.
All of which means that single-game sports betting should go off with a bang when it finally launches in Ontario on April 4, 2022. So watch this space for more about this rapidly changing story.
