The big plan for the Canelo show lately has been facing the obscure twice-beaten WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu; number one, very few fans know who the hell that is!ย

Now, it would be exciting to see Canelo step up and fight for the Cruiserweight championship, but the fact remains that Makabu is not the Cruiserweight champion; he is nothing more than a trinket holder who would be easy work for Canelo. I will give Canelo credit for being an active champion, but I will not give him the credit they want for facing the best competition because they aren’t! There was no GGG third fight after Canelo lost the first fight, and the second fight was too close to call. No Andrade or Charlo fight, no Artur Beterbiev or Dmitry Bivol fights. But he will fight an old Sergey Kovalev and act like it’s a big deal. Everything about Canelo is starting to smell fishy. Why jump Light Heavyweight and go to Cruiserweight? I will tell you why because Makabu is no threat to Canelo. He is an easy mark, and they will act like Canelo is now the Cruiserweight champion. This act is starting to wear thin with fans, and Canelo must respond with something soon.
Canelo’s parade to greatness has included wins over.
You will notice that Canelo trends towards fighters who pose no real threat to knock him out! That is not the way to get to legendary status. The other thing that stands out in Canelo’s career is that he doesn’t give too many rematches off the top of my head only GGG has gotten a rematch.

Possible Canelo opponents are long and would make for great PPV numbers.
All of the above-listed fights are interesting and pose the possibility of Canelo losing! Wait that is the issue! Those guys would all have a shot to win! We can’t risk the Golden Goose in a tough fight. The advantage, of course, would be Canelo can take a punch, so he could probably only lose by knockout because you know the judges will be, for the most part, on his side. Heck, if he wants to fight a Cruiserweight, why not Murat Gassiev? We all know why Canelo will never fight Gassiev because it would be painful and a probable loss. Who will be Canelo’s next opponent? Your guess is as good as mine, but a possible matchup with somebody who doesn’t hit that hard would be my only logical guess! How about this? Fight Charlo next, then a fight at Cruiserweight against Makabu so you can act historical and then finish the year out against Beterbiev?
