The man behind The Grueling Truth - Where Legends Speak
Gervonta “Tank” Davis’s stoppage win over Mario Barrios was a good action fight. Tank can punch, but did we learn anything?
What I learned is that Tank will always talk about big fights, but he’ll likely never fight one.
Why?
Davis is being protected by manager Floyd Mayweather.
There is all kind of high levels fights Tank could make right now. Hell, they could have been made any time in the last three or four years. Showtime sports claimed last night that Tank was a three-division champion! That is an absolute joke. Barrios was not the true 140lb king because that’s Josh Taylor who is by no means afraid of tough fights.
Davis wasn’t the lightweight champion. That was Vasiliy Lomachenko who lost his belts against Teofimo Lopez. Why did Tank never challenge Lomachenko? Why is he not fighting a guy like Lopez?
I’ll tell you why.
He’s being protected by Mayweather and PBC.
Lomachenko fought Lopez because he’s proved during his career he’ll fight anybody. Since turning professional eight years ago, when has Tank ever stepped up to fight anybody that was an upper-echelon boxer? The answer, of course, is NEVER.
That’s why he is a Ponzi scheme. He’ll run around and talk about fighting the elites, but he’ll never sign a contract to fight any of them. Is Davis afraid? Hell no, but PBC and Mayweather are, and Mayweather has said he only wants Tank fighting PBC fighters.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s when the best wanted to fight the best. They wanted to be legends. Very few fighters are like that anymore and Davis is no exception.
If Tank is the 140lb champ, wouldn’t that mean he would want to unify to be “THE” champ? You would think so, but for all the talk from his fans and Tank himself about how great he is, I think it’s obvious that Josh Taylor would beat Tank’s ass.
Davis fans answer me this. Who has fought the better competition, Tank or Taylor? Who won all the crowns at 140lbs?
Barrios was made a champion so everybody at PBC and Showtime could proclaim Tank a champion without an inordinate amount of risk. In the end, it turns out that PBC is doing nothing but hurting Tank Davis, and boxing.
Will we ever see Tank in a legit risky fight?
I have my doubts.
