14) Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Cornhuskers are terrible in the frontcourt, and they do not seem to have the players on the roster to change that. Shot selection has been atrocious. Also, it all adds up to a long season ahead for Nebraska.

13) Penn State Nittany Lions

The Nittany Lions beat Wagner but got blown out by Michigan State. This team is going to struggle in the Big Ten. Next up, the Nittany Lions will head to the road to battle VCU on Saturday.

12) Maryland Terrapins

Maybe the tide s starting to turn for the Terrapins after a horrendous start to the season, including losing a Head Coach. This past weekend, Maryland pulled off a surprise upsetting Florida after losing three straight games. The Terrapins still face an uphill struggle, but they have a roster capable of winning games in the Big Ten.

11) Michigan Wolverines

The Wolverines beat Nebraska last week but had an inexcusable home loss to Minnesota over the weekend. I say inexcusable because if the Wolverines make the tournament in March, they can not give away home games against teams that they can compete with.

10) Minnesota Golden Gophers

I am not sure what to think of the Gophers yet, the record is 8-1, but the level of competition hasn’t been great yet. They picked up a huge road win at Michigan last week and played well but lost 75-67 at Michigan State.

9) Rutgers Scarlet Knights

The Knights won an old fashioned barnburner against Purdue last week in a shocking upset of the number one team in the country. They followed that win up with a loss to Seton Hall on Sunday. The Purdue win can go a long way come selection Sunday, though, if Rutgers can string up some big ten wins.

8) Northwestern Wildcats

The Wildcats are sitting at 7-2 on the season and only played one game last week, a win over NJIT. The Wildcats will play Depaul this coming weekend, and that game should give a great indication of how good Northwestern is.

7) Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa had a terrible week losing both games they played to Iowa State and at home to Illinois. The Hawkeyes lack of production on the offensive end has to be cause for concern.

6) Indiana Hoosiers

6,7 and 8 on this list are all kind of interchangeable as none of the three teams has played a very tough schedule. Indiana lost a considerable lead at Wisconsin in a game they needed. The Hoosiers have to get better guard play, and Race Thompson and Trace Jackson Davis need to take more shots.

5) Wisconsin Badgers

The Badgers had a huge come from behind win over Indiana last week; they followed that up with a loss at Ohio State. The Badgers look to be an excellent team that should stay in the top half of these ratings all year long.

4) Illinois Fighting Illini

The Illini got a massive win over Iowa and followed that up by getting beaten up by Arizona. Arizona is a dominant team that could very well end up in the Final Four at the end of the year. The Illini have played a competitive schedule which should help them get ready for the grind of the Big Ten.

3) Michigan State Spartans

Maybe the most impressive stat with the Spartans right now is that they have six wins against teams ranked in the top 90 in the KenPom rankings. Last week, they won both games, beating Minnesota in Minnesota and then beating Penn State at home.

2) Purdue Boilermakers

Purdue got ranked number one in the country and then lost on the road to Rutgers in a crazy ending. The Boilers bounced back over the weekend and beat North Carolina State. Purdue will face Butler on Saturday, and as of right now, the prospects for Purdue look great, headed towards March.

1) Ohio State Buckeyes

The most significant change this year in Columbus is how much improved the Buckeyes are on the defensive side of the floor. That has translated into some big-time wins, and the most impressive win in the Big Ten this past weekend was the Buckeyes 18 point manhandling of Wisconsin.
