The last decade for the Lakers, particularly the previous year, has been riddled with complications, loss, and tragedy. Moreover, before the Lakers’ most recent season, they failed to qualify through to the playoffs six years in a row.

However, recently, the Los Angeles Lakers have made a startling recovery. Regaining the respect and title they’d lost years ago, the Lakers succeeded as NBA champions once again, for the 17th time in history, by defeating the Miami Heat 106 – 93.

Due to their winning title, the Lakers have been tipped to repeat the feat next season, they’re favorites with the majority of OLBG’s list of recommended New Jersey sportsbooks, although the majority of people betting through these sites are likely to be hoping the Brooklyn Nets come out on top! But to weigh up a bet, it always helps to assess the opponents. With the Lakers’ recent performance, they’ll be one to watch. And depending on your loyalties, perhaps even consider switching sides for, at least for betting purposes!

In consideration of betting, it helps to analyze each team’s past performance to indicate how they’ll fare in the upcoming games. With that, here are a few key factors that lead towards securing the Laker’s victory, including some events which have guided and propelled the Lakers into the position they’re in today.

Enter LeBron James

In 2018 Magic Johnson had a lengthy discussion with three-time NBA champion LeBron James and eventually convinced him to join the Lakers. On July 1st, 2018, the former Cleveland Cavalier announced he had signed a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

At that moment, LeBron James became one of the key reasons that would lead the team to victory in the recent season.

Before and during the season, LeBron made his intentions on joining the Lakers clear. He talked a lot about giving the Lakers the respect they deserve and putting the “franchise back in the position where it belongs.”

Coach Frank Vogel continuously spoke highly of LeBron, declaring LeBron performed better on and off-court than basketball legend Michael Jordan!

Among all the hype and expectations, LeBron delivered what he intended to. In the game against the Miami Heat, LeBron secured a triple-double, adding 28 points, 14 rebounds, and ten assists to the board. While also achieving MVP’s title (most valuable player), he made this his fourth MVP title with three different teams.

Through exceptional leadership and performance, LeBron was one of the pivotal reasons that propelled the team to victory.

Chemistry On The Court

It’s essential to note that LeBron and Anthony’s on-court chemistry amplified their performance throughout the season. Anthony Davies was signed up to the team in 2019, and LeBron and Anthony got on like a house on fire.

In the final game against the Miami Heat, Davis put up 19 points and ten rebounds.

Outstanding Performance From All Players

Of course, winning the NBA championships can’t just be attributed to LeBron and Davis. The rest of the team demonstrated a consistent performance that propelled the Lakers to triumph during the season.

A notable game demonstrating the Lakers’ capabilities was the Lakers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder on January 11th, 2020, during the regular season. In this game, LeBron and Davis couldn’t play because of injuries.

Instead, other Lakers players stepped up in their absence. For instance, Kyle Kuzma and Rajon Rondo hit the ground running in the arena. With Kuzma adding 36 points, and Rondo, despite an injury to his finger, adding 21 points. As a result, the Lakers won 125 – 110.

In Honor Of Kobe and GiGi

Kobe Bryant, one of the Lakers legendary players, died on January 26th this year, along with his teenage daughter Gianna, and seven others, in a helicopter crash.

This tragedy rocked the NBA world, particularly the LA Lakers. After Kobe’s passing, the Lakers lost against the Portland Trail Blazers; no doubt, their poor performance resulted from losing one of the team’s crucial players.

However, in the games to come, something clicked in the team. And this was expressed through various talks with the media. The team players talked about succeeding and winning for Kobe and that he was looking down on the team and guiding them.

In response, the team put their words into action in the arena and channeled their frustrations on the basketball court. It was clear each player had a reason bigger than themselves to give their all in-game in respect of Kobe and to make him proud.

Anthony Davies, in particular, who was mentored by Kobe at the London Olympics, explained:

“He was a big brother to all of us. We did this for him,” the Lakers cheered in agreement by his side.

The Lakers Became Champions

And, if the past year has taught us anything about the Lakers, it’s that they’re incredibly resilient.

From new players to on-court duos, an increase in performance, and everyone on their A-game in honor of Kobe’s passing. These are just a few reasons that steered the LA Lakers to win the NBA Championships.

While the upcoming NBA start date is still being decided, the Lakers have a window to enjoy their title. Still, the Lakers need to start preparing to create a winning strategy and secure a winning team for the next round of tournaments. As we’d love to see, the Lakers achieve a winning streak in the seasons to come!
