Young Wildcats Survive on the Road Against a Feisty Commodore Squad (74-67)
Nashville: The young Wildcats hold off a feisty veteran Commodore squad on the road. The Cats, who have lacked an identity all year, might have just found their groove with a massive road win in a very hostile environment at Vanderbilt. Still many questions remain for the young Wildcats, especially considering Jarred Vanderbiltโs return. Cal, when asked about the timetable for his first appearance this year, answered abruptly, โI didnโt know if Jarred was going to play before the game, Iโm just acting like heโs not here and if he is, he is. And if they are, they are.โ
Jarred has yet to play for the Wildcats since his foot injury at the later part of September. More questions will be asked regarding this issue and some will start to doubt if he will play at all in Kentucky uniform. The Wildcats were also without freshman guard Quade Green, who has missed the last two games with an injury and is listed day to day as well as forward, Tai Wynyard.
Todayโs X-factor:
Shai Gilgeous- Alexander and Kevin Knox were the two young Wildcats that helped lead Kentucky to a much needed conference road win. Alexander had a monster game going 7-11 from the field, 1-1 from three, and had 22 points followed up by 4 rebounds and played 39 total min. Kevin Knox was also instrumental in the road win for the Wildcats going 5-9 from the field, 7-7 from the charity stripe, and 17 total points, including 9 in the closing minutes of the game, that helped the Cats lock up their 4th SEC win of the year.
Final stats of interest for the game:
Vanderbilt- 21-55 from the field, 38.2%, 30 total rebounds
Kentucky- 23-43 from the field, 53.5%, 35 total rebounds
Next up for both teams:
Vanderbilt- @ Mississippi State ( 1/16), LSU ( 1/20)
Kentucky- @ South Carolina (1/16), Florida ( 1/20)
