1) Seton Hall is very good and will be a factor come tournament time
The Pirates started the year out slow, but since the Big East has started up this has been a top-5 team in the nation. On Saturday they won at Villanova and Nova is very hard to beat at home. The Pirates have a great back-court and are no slouches underneath the basket. Led by Myles Powell and Qunicy McKnight the Pirates are not getting the attention they should be, but that is starting to change.
The Hoosiers are in the midst of a losing streak that is about to relegate them once again to the NIT. Excuses abound in Indiana but unfortunately, Archie Miller has no answers for the third-straight year. When will enough be enough in Indiana?
Don’t look now but the Terps have the uneven play straightened out and a win in Illinois has to make people pay attention. The Big Ten is full of solid teams but this looks like the only team that has a shot at a National Title at this moment.
The Aztecs are very good and will enter the tournament undefeated and as a number one seed. Can they win it all? They have a very real shot and have beaten some solid teams this year.
Duke won but a Final Four run, while not improbable, looks more questionable than usual this season. North Carolina looks headed for a losing season. Has the game passed by Roy Williams? My guess is no and they will be contenders very soon.
Seton Hall – A road win over Georgetown and a road win over Villanova makes the Pirates a no-brainer.
Tyrique Jones, Xavier – Jones has now had three-straight games with 18 rebounds and has scored in double figures in every one. Jones is a walking double-double and doesn’t get the national recognition he deserves.
Bob Knight returns to Assembly Hall – The General finally returned to the Hall that he made famous and not a dry eye could be found in the building. It says a lot about the Indiana basketball program that Knight coming back was probably the best moment at Assembly Hall since he left.
