The Gauchos and Aggies met late Saturday night in a massive Big West rivalry game. These two teams met once before this season with UC Santa Barbara earning a hard-fought 69-58 road win at UC Davis. The Aggies got revenge and stunned the Gauchos 61-57 in a massive road win.
UC Davis led at halftime by a margin of 31-25 and left the crowd in the Thunderdome completely stunned as both teams went to the locker room. The Aggies shot lights out in the first half going for an impressive 52% from the field ( 12 of 23) while holding the Gauchos to a mere 39% from the field at the break. Despite the halftime deficit, the Gauchos led the Aggies in just about every stat including an impressive 17 to 12 rebounding advantage.
The rivalry lived up to the hype with both teams hanging tough for a vast majority of the game creating a very fun basketball game for fans in the building and at home to enjoy. The game went down to the closing seconds with UC Davis stunning their rival 61-57 to earn the season split with UC Santa Barbara.
UC Davis was led by TJ Shorts II who led the Aggies with 21 points including 5-5 from the free throw line. UC Davis as a team shot an impressive 43% from the field and went 6 for 18 from behind the arc ( 33%).
This was an extremely hard fought win for the UC Davis Aggies and with the upset win they improve to 8-14 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.
This game between these Big West foes proved to the die-hard College Basketball fans across the country that you never go to bed until all the games are over for the fear of missing something legendary that you talk about Monday morning around the water cooler. This type of game is just a sneak peek as to what to expect come March Madness.
