NCAA Tournament Picking all of the First Round Games

Predicting the First round games!

East Region

(1) Duke-North Dakota State (16) – This should be over very early with the Blue Devils being able to rest for Saturday’s game. Duke 103 ND St 61

(8) VCU-UCF (9) – The Rams have one of the best defenses in the country and UCF struggles offensively at times. This is a great matchup. UCF 70  VCU 65

(5) Mississippi State-Liberty (12) – The backcourt should be the difference in this game. Liberty 67  Miss St 65

(4) Virginia Tech-St. Louis (13) – The Billikens will want to slow the game down, while the Hokies will look to play fast. Virginia Tech 70 St. Louis 51

(6) Maryland-Belmont (11) – Belmont may be the best shooting team in the country and Maryland is just not consistent enough. Belmont 77 Maryland 76

(3) LSU-Yale (14) – Losing Head Coach Will Wade will not derail the Tigers here, but Yale is a good team that will not go down easily. LSU 79  Yale 74

(7) Louisville-Minnesota (10) – Louisville have been down as of late, but Minnesota has not exactly set the world on fire. With that being said I am picking the team with the better coach. Louisville 68 Minnesota 67

(2) Michigan State-Bradley (15) – Izzo has done maybe his best coaching job this year and Bradley does not have the players to keep this close, but defensively they are good enough to compete for 30 minutes MSU 75 Bradley 65

West Region

(1) Gonzaga-Fairleigh Dickinson (16) – No match here. Gonzaga 93 FDU 59

(8) Syracuse-Baylor (9) – Hard to pick against the Cuse in the tourney over the last few years and Baylor has been inconsistent all year long, I still think Baylor is better. Baylor 77 Syracuse 67

(5) Marquette-Murray State (12) – Marquette has struggled over there last 6 games and Ja Morant is the real deal. Murray State 81 Marquette 65

(4) Florida State-Vermont (13) – FSU is hot and Vermont is a good team, but talent wise they are not on the Seminoles level. FSU 87 Vermont 77

(6) Buffalo-Arizona State (11) – It will not be surprising this year when the Bulls win and they will win this game. Buffalo 79 Arizona State 57

(3) Texas Tech-Northern Kentucky (14) – Drew McDonald is a stud for NKU, but it will not be enough to upset a very good Texas Tech team. I do think it will be interesting for a while. Tech 82 NKU 68

(7) Nevada-Florida (10) – Nevada is a veteran team but I just don’t feel that they are headed for another great run, I like the athletes of the Gators here. Florida 77 Nevada 76

(2) Michigan-Montana (15) – Michigan will win, but knowing the Wolverines they will make it more difficult than it needs to be. Michigan 68 Montana 56

South Region

(1) Virginia-Gardner-Webb (16) – A miracle happened last year; it will not happen again. Virginia 75 Gardner Webb 60

(8) Ole Miss-Oklahoma (9) – Oklahoma should not even be in this tournament and a nine seed is outrageous, but they are better than Ole Miss. Okl 78  Ole Miss 55

(5) Wisconsin-Oregon (12) – Oregon to athletic. Ducks 77  Wisc 55

(4) Kansas State-UC Irvine (13) – No Wade means Irvine pulls this game out. Irvine 62 Kansas State 59

(6) Villanova-St. Marys (11) – This looks to be a great matchup for the Gaels as the Villanova strength is the three, but the Gaels got to this tournament because of their ability to defend the three-point shot. St. Marys 70 Villanova 69

(3) Purdue-Old Dominion (14) – ODU is a good team but they struggle to score at times and while I think that Purdue is vulnerable, I think ODU will not be able to take advantage. Purdue 71 ODU 64

(7) Cincinnati-Iowa (10) – Mick Cronin has proven to not be a good coach come March Madness and don’t let a conference championship fool you. The Bearcats should win this game but Cronin’s coaching will cost them in the end. Iowa 72  Cin 67

(2) Tennessee-Colgate (15) – Tennessee is just too strong for Colgate in this one. Tennessee 91 Colgate 82

Midwest Region

(1) North Carolina-Iona (16) – No miracles in this game as the Heels run away and hide early. UNC 102 Iona 71

(8) Utah State-Washington (9) – Washington will win this game because of the Aggies inability to take care of the ball. Washington 66 Utah State 63

(5) Auburn Tigers-New Mexico State (12) – The Tigers play there best in the biggest moments. Auburn 72 New Mexico State 69

(4) Kansas-Northeastern (13) – Northeastern will have to get hot to win this game and It won’t happen. Kansas 71 Northeastern 55

(6) Iowa State-Ohio State (11) – Iowa State is just playing better right now. Iowa State 68 Ohio State 60

(3) Houston-Georgia State (14) – Houston is just too good for Georgia State in this matchup. Houston 81  Georgia State 64

(7) Wofford-Seton Hall (10) – Seton Hall does not defend the three-pointer which against Wofford will be a huge problem. Wofford 81 Seton Hall 72
