Despite a program record 13 ACC wins, Florida State did not have a first-team All-ACC selection or a second-team selection or a third-team selection. What it does have is the conference’s top player off the bench.
Redshirt sophomore forward Mfiondu Kabengele was named the ACC’s Sixth Player of the Year on Monday. A 6-foot-10 native of Canada, Kabengele is the only player in the country to lead his team in scoring without making a start.
For the season, Kabengele is averaging 13.1 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting better than 50 percent from the field. Kanbengle is also shooting 76 percent from the foul line and 35 percent from deep.
For the second straight season, slasher Terance Mann, a senior, had to settle for ACC honorable mention honors. Kabengele also earned that distinction.
FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton finished fourth for ACC Coach of the Year. Hamilton won that honor in 2009 and 2012.
