1) Ohio State Buckeyes
Nobody in the Big Ten has a resume like the Buckeyes and after looking like they were coming back to earth after a loss to Minnesota, the Buckeyes rebounded with a huge win over Kentucky.
Penn State has hit a lull in the schedule, with their next game being against Cornell before league play hits. This team is going to be in the top half of this league all year and they will be in the Tournament come March.
The Spartans don’t have any marquee wins yet this year but they are the only Big Ten team to win a conference game on the road so far.
The Wolverines own a strong resume with 5 wins against teams ranked in the top-50. They get one easy game this weekend before conference play begins.
Maryland sustained a tough loss at Seton Hall but the overall resume is strong.
The loss at Wisconsin still scares me but they have solid wins over UCONN, Florida State, and Notre Dame. I am still not sure about this team but they seem to have the talent to stay around 6th in the Big Ten and make the big dance after a three-year absence.
The Hawkeyes continue to seemingly over-achieve. Can they continue that in Big Ten play? I think they can.
I fully expect the Boilermakers to slowly rise in these rankings, even though they have had a perplexing season so far.
The surprise of the league so far. The question is can they keep it up in conference play? I don’t think they can but they will pull some upsets nobody expects.
The Gophers, after a slow start, are playing as good a basketball as any team in the Big Ten right now.
They have the feel of a very talented team destined for the NIT because of inconsistent play.
They now have Micah Potter on the floor which will help out, but a .500 season overall seems to be the destiny in Madison.
After a surprising win over Purdue, the Huskers looked to be getting better and then they promptly lost to North Dakota at home.
The Wildcats just are not very good at this moment.
