The luxury tax
After a successful appearance in the NBA Finals, the biggest question for the Celtics is whether their ownership has the desire to spend a lot of money on the luxury tax. $7.5 million more over the Luxury Tax to begin the off-season. Boston is eligible for the $6.5m tax midlevel exemption, as well as three large trade exceptions, $17.1, $9.7, and $6.9million. Boston, despite being above the tax threshold, can still use the trade exceptions to make a trade — however, not to acquire a free agent through a sign-and-trade deal.
