This will be a matchup of contrasting styles as you have the best defensive team in the country in Texas tech against the number one offense in Gonzaga. Something will have to give on Saturday night!
Tech needs to limit the transition game of Gonzaga
Gonzaga is one of the best college teams I have ever seen in playing transition basketball and Texas Tech will have to control the pace of play and limit turnovers. The Bulldogs (33-3) were battle-tested this season by playing Duke, North Carolina, and Tennessee in the non-conference. Those tests all happened early in the season though and you have to wonder how ready Gonzaga is to play a defensive team like the Red Raiders. Texas Tech’s defense is extraordinarily fast at playing rally defense and that makes it really difficult for teams to get open looks.
The Bulldogs have a big front line that consists of Rui Hachimura, Brandon Clarke and Killian Tillie and it will be imperative for the undersized Red Raiders to play physical and block out.
The Red Raiders should have the advantage at this spot, as they are led by Davide Moretti and Matt Mooney. If these two are hitting from the outside the Red Raiders have a very real shot at pulling the upset here.
Prediction: This may be the best matchup of this entire tournament and I am going with the upset here. I believe the speed of the Red Raiders is much faster than they look on tape. Multiple Coaches have said how much faster the Raiders are in person than what they expected.
Red Raiders 65 Bulldogs 64
