For More Red Sox News!
The Boston Red Sox are your 2018 World Series Champions! With a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Sox took home the hardware. We were led by an incredible pitching performance by David Price and two Steve Pearce bombs. The latter is your World Series MVP and the former dispelled an entire conceptual framework. Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez also raked with solo homers. Chris Sale, the best pitcher in baseball, closed the game out in dominating fashion. It was the perfect game to cap off an extraordinary journey.
Boston took down two 100-wins behemoths to get to the promised land. They had to take down the second-best team by BaseRuns in baseball to win it all. For reference, the Red Sox had the third best BaseRuns record in the MLB. Yet this team was, by standings, the best team in baseball with a franchise-record 108 regular season wins. Now, this team owns the 2018 season, defeating 29 other opposers. Until the end of time, they will have the year 2018, reigning supreme above the rest. We will have the year 2018.
It was a year with many highs and, contrary to baseball’s natural peaks and valleys, very few lows. This is not your standard recap. That just does not feel appropriate. Chances are, if you’re reading this, you saw all the action unfold. You saw Joe Kelly and David Price defeat their demons. You saw Mookie Betts demolish his first World Series homer.
Instead, this is a commemoration to the greatest Red Sox team in history. Cheers to the most magical season which began in late March with a bullpen meltdown against the Tampa Bay Rays. We have come a long way since.
The key players on this team ran 25 deep, helmed by rookie manager Alex Cora. Boy, do we love Coralytics. Cora implemented an analytical game plan which, make no mistake about it, has had an unquantifiable effect on the on-field result.
There is no looking to the future for the 2018 Red Sox. The future is the present; a timeless and enduring present which is carried on in our memories. There is so much more to say about this team. For now, though, that is all that will be said. This team has provided so much joy and that can never be taken away.
Thank you, Alex Cora. Thank you, Mookie Betts. Thank you, Dave Dombrowski. Thank you, Nathan Eovaldi and Steve Pearce. Thank you, J.D. Martinez. Thank you, 2018 Boston Red Sox. We love you forever. Thanks for the memories!
