Phil Nevin was the interim manager. On Tuesday, the Angels’ Twitter page made an announcement.
“The Angels have relieved Joe Maddon from his duties as Angeles Manager today.” Phil Nevin was named Interim Manager.
From the Angels’ point of view, the decision to fire him right now is a fascinating one. It is hard to understand why they didn’t fire him in the offseason, considering that there was talk that he might not be brought back by the Angels.
