Red Sox Struggling To Find Consistency

Both the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees seem to not want to be alone atop the AL East. The Yankees have been a dreadful 2-8 in their last ten games, while the Red Sox have not been much better, only winning 4 out of their last ten games.

The Red Sox lost their second straight three game series, the first being at Kansas City, with the second one at home against the Mike Trout-less Los Angeles Angels. The two series losses coming after a hot stretch of games for the Red Sox, including an impressive series win against the Houston Astros.

After accumulating an 18-9 record from May 21st through June 18th, the Red Sox have gone a paltry 2-4 in their last six games. A lack of consistency from both the pitching staff and the position players has been the main reason for their recent, slight fall.

The only two wins in their last two series have been when the offense exploded, an 8-3 win against the Royals, and a 9-4 win against the Angels. Their losses occur either when the offense is unable to bail out the pitching staff, or when the pitching staff does not receive the run support necessary for a win.

A crucial four game series against the AL Central leading Minnesota Twins. If the Red Sox hope to get back on track, and take advantage of the Yankees fall to reality, they have to aim for a series win, before heading out on a ten game road trip.

The ten game road trip starts off with a trip to Toronto to face their division rivals in a three game series. The Sox will then head down south to Texas for another three game series against the Red Sox. They will head into the all-star break with a four game series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
