On a bitter Tuesday afternoon at Swayze Field, the Ole Miss Rebels hosted their first of two- midweek games as the Little Rock Trojans traveled to Oxford. The Rebels had a fantastic second inning scoring 5 runs and building a 7-0 lead, but the Trojans didn’t give up. Little Rock clawed back in the game in the top half of the 5thinning by driving in four runs on four hits to cut the Rebels lead to three runs. Ole Miss then opened the game back up in 7th by adding four more runs to their 7-4 lead to make it 11-4 Ole Miss. Ole Miss held off a late 9th inning comeback attempt by the Trojans to end up winning 11-8.
Little Rock was able to get the bats heated up in the top half of the 5thinning to make things interesting with Ole Miss. The Trojans went for four runs on four hits in the 5thto cut the Ole Miss lead down to three runs (7-4). The Trojans were able to add four runs in the 9th, but the comeback fell short.
Jordan Fowler took the mound for the Rebels today in the midweek clash with the Trojans. Fowler lasted 4 innings, giving up two hits and four runs. Max Cioffi came in for relief in the 5thinning after the Trojans started racking runs together.
The Rebels bats came alive in the 2ndinning going for five runs to push the run total to six before adding the seventh in the 4th. Ole Miss ended up with 13 hits on 11 runs in the win over Little Rock. Despite having the lead cut to three in the 5ththe Rebels put the Trojans away by adding four runs in the bottom half of the 7thinning to make it 11-4.
With the win, Ole Miss improves to 9-2 on the season and 2-0 on midweek games so far this season. Ole Miss will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon as the Rebels will play host to the 14thranked East Carolina Pirates. Ole Miss leads the overall series record with ECU by a margin of three games to none, the last meeting came last season in which saw the Rebels sweep the Pirates. Ole Miss will host UAB this weekend starting on Friday night at Swayze Field.
