Oxford: In a Regional where all four teams are combined for an impressive 171-57 record heading into the Tournament one thing is for certain the fans in Oxford are bound to see great baseball. Swayze Field will be rocking with upward of 15,000 in attendance as one of the most highly anticipated regionals gets underway on Friday.
Thursday was practice at Swayze Field with all four teams taking the field in one last tune-up before Regional play begins on Friday.
The hometown Rebels were first to take the field on Friday for aย little last-second tune up before they start tournament play with the St. Louis Billikens. The Rebels are red hot and smoking coming into NCAA play riding the emotional high of winning the SEC Tournament Championship, where the Rebels throttled LSU by a score of nine to one. The biggest question for Ole Miss heading into the Regional will be injuries. Will Grae Kessinger or Tyler Keenan play after being injured in the SEC Championship. Coach Bianco said on a recent interview with โ The Mitch Davis Showโ that he fully expected Tyler Keenan to play, and Grae will be a day to day desicion. Ole Miss will begin their Tournament run on Friday at 6:30 on the SEC Network.
Tennessee Tech will be coming into Oxford with the high flying bats that have the Golden Eagles with 128 homeruns on the season. The Golden Eagles will be entering the Tournament with an OVC record of 48 wins including an impressive 28 game winning streak. The Golden Eagles will face Missouri State on Friday at 2:00p on ESPN3.
The St. Louis Billikens will be entering the Tournament with an impressive 38-18 overall record. St. Louis won both the A-10 Regular Season and Tournament titles in 2018 and are 9-1 in their last 10 games. Billikens ace Miller Hogan will the mound on Friday as St. Louis will play the Ole Miss Rebels.
Missouri State will start their Tournament run with Tennessee Tech on Friday. The Bears are coming into the Tournament riding high after winning the Missouri Valley Championship. Missouri State will be making their 11th NCAA Tournament appearance as they play the Golden Eagles from Tennessee Tech. Dylan Coleman will be taking the mound this weekend with an impressive 122 strikeouts this season ranking within the top 15 nationally. Matt Brown for the Bears has also hit seven homers, driven in 14 runs and scored 15 more.
The Oxford Regional gets underway on Friday afternoon at 2:00 in Oxford, Mississippi with a lot of great baseball in store. With the amount of high flying baseball action that will follow this weekend fans not only at Swayze, but across the country will be in for a treat with the baseball action in Oxford.
