What a fantastic week in the baseball world! The feel good story of the season took place this week as MLB umpire John Tumpane stepped in and saved a woman from taking her own life in Pittsburgh this week. A man in a job often ridiculed and vilified will forever be in the same company as umpires like Jim Joyce, yes THAT Jim Joyce, who saved a woman’s life at Chase Field several years ago by performing CPR after she collapsed and began shaking. Both these men went out and did their jobthe day they performed these heroic acts. We at Out of Left Field salute John Tumpane and proudly say he is the Defender of the Week.
In news on the diamond, the Washington Nationals felt the sting of the Disabled List again as Trea Turner is out with a fractured wrist for what will probably be a minimum of 2 months. Can the Nationals keep their focus on October and how will this injury affect their choices at the trade deadline?
