Oxford: In a must-win SEC series for both Georgia and Ole Miss the Rebels earned a hard-fought series win. This top 15 matchup in the SEC lived up to the hype with Georgia taking game one, Ole Miss taking game two, and Ole Miss taking the series.
Game two of the series went in favor of Ole Miss with an 8- 4 win over Georgia. The bats for the Rebels were on fire in game two going for nine hits and eight runs to lead the Rebels past the Bulldogs to force the series decider on Saturday night which happened to be the second game of the day due to a doubleheader. Brady Feigl went five innings for the Rebels striking out one and giving up seven hits. Will Stokes came in for relief for the Rebels going three and a half innings striking out four and only giving up two hits.
The Rebels continued the momentum into game three Saturday night as they jumped on the Bulldogs early scoring two in the second then adding three to that lead in the fifth inning. The Rebels closed the series with a 5-2 win over Georiga to improve to 32-9 on the season and 10-8 in SEC play.
Team captain Will Golsan led the Rebels with a monster game going for two home runs and three hits. Ole Miss carried the hitting power over into game three going for 6 hits and five runs.
James McArthur was lights out for the Rebels going six innings, striking out four, only giving up two hits and one run. Relief pitching came in and gave up one run before closing the game and series out.
With the win, Ole Miss will improve to 32-9 on the season and 10-8 in SEC play. The Rebels also snap a two SEC series losing streak with the win over Georgia on Saturday night. Ole Miss will face arch-rival Mississippi State on Tuesday night in Pearl, Ms, before coming back home to host LSU for a Thursday through Saturday series at Swayze Field.
Georgia drops to 27-13 on the season and 10-8 in conference play. The Bulldogs will travel to bitter rival Georgia Tech on Tuesday night, before returning home to host the Tennessee Volunteers for Friday through Sunday series in Athens.
