In an MLB match on Saturday, July 23, the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Boston Red Sox 4-1. In the match, which was held at Fenway Park, Alek Manoah became the main star with an extraordinary performance. Check out the best new bookmakers for betting on baseball.
The Blue Jays have relied more on Manoah’s arm than their batt in maintaining dominance over the Red Sox throughout this season. After successfully setting the team’s record for runs and scoring the most goals against the Red Sox (28-5), Manoah made a big contribution to that record.
Despite Manoah’s stunning game having scored three of four strokes for the Blue Jays, the team has won five games in a row.
In the second set, Manoah (11-4) allowed a homer by Bobby Dalbec with seven strokes and lowered his ERA to 2.24. This proves that Manoah can control his competitiveness and has a strong desire to win the match.
He said, “Competitiveness is something I can control. And I have the desire to win, and I don’t want to have anything short in every game.”
Until the end, Manoah seemed excited and kept barking against the Red Sox. He was also able to end the match with three consecutive strokes to bring the Blue Jays to victory.
“It was a hot baseball game. Those guys tried to do everything they could to win. We did the same on our side. I’m quite excited and happy that we got the win,” said Manoah after the Blue Jays dominated the game.
Beyond that match, Manoah’s performance was also proven by Statcast. Manoah has averaged 15.6 inches of horizontally moving sliders this season. When compared to MLB sliders that are thrown at the same speed, that’s 52 percent more movement than the average slider. As such, it ranks 16th out of 370 eligible MLB sliders.
John Schneider as the Blue Jays manager said that he was proud of the hard work done by Manoah and his entire team. “We all know he’s an emotional guy and I think that’s what makes Manoah an elite, which is the way he competes.”
He considered that there is no baseball player more competitive than Manoah at this time, and Manoah is not shy about showing it in public during matches.
Schneider saw Manoah in an All-Star game and learned that he had a big personality. According to Schneider, that’s a good thing about competition and sportsmanship in the game.
“Today, the way the game went, people will celebrate when they’ve done well. Whether it’s offensive or not, I’m fine with that,” he commented on the heated match.
Schneider told Manoah, “Amazing effort for today. How to empty the tank and make sure emotions don’t overwhelm you and don’t become obvious to your opponent.”
The Blue Jays scored a 51-43-0 record and finished third in the AL East. Meanwhile, under Schneider, the Blue Jays have scored a 5-1 record.
Throughout this season, the Blue Jays have scored a 9-3 record against the Red Sox. The Blue Jays will return against the Red Sox on July 24, 2022, and August 24, 2022, at Fenway Park in their next fixtures.
